I would have no hesitation shooting a wolf with my 204. But I haven’t had a chance go shoot one. Seems the situation is never right when I do see them.
I have 2 220 swifts. The one I worked up a good load for 55gr Vmax and I carry the rifle in the truck when I work up north in case I see wolves. The swift that I shoot 40gr in and shoot coyotes with, I actually have not handloaded for it. I stumbled across a really good deal on a bunch of HSM...
I shoot lots with my 220 swift as well. 40gr Vmax at 4370fps. I think being fur friendly has a lot to do with bullet length. Fragile bullet, short bullet length, and good shot placement. And enough velocity to make sure the bullet comes apart quickly. If you shoot them high in the spine...
I’m lucky to live overlooking a river valley and always have a bait going to shoot them off of. Plus I call some. Plus I snare a bunch. Plus a bunch are shot as a guy is going around the country side. Won’t be that many this year, work is too busy. The kids have shot a few off the bait at...
When I use my 204, it’s for coyotes. I save the fur on my coyotes and make good money off them. I shoot 80-100 a year. I shoot the 32gr Vmax and it kills very well and is very easy on fur. I won’t be switching.
I am very happy with Barnes TTSX and can’t see myself changing at all. I’m planning on trying the 145 LRX in my new 28 this spring. I am not a fan of the big heavy bullets. I want speed.
You guys thinking you need a bigger rifle to kill coyotes. I don't know what the issue is. They're not hard to kill. Don't shoot them in the shoulder bone. Put a hole in the lungs and they're done. Don't shoot em in the guts or behind. I've shot plenty of big coyotes with a 204 and 32gr...
I really like the 32gr vmax out of my 204 for coyotes. Have shot about 100 coyotes with them and they're great. Out to nearly 450yds. But mostly under 300yds.
I've got a 250 pack of Calhoun 33gr double hollow points. Going to try those out in the HS 204 I recently got.
My brother shoots a Tikka T3 varmint in 300 wsm. I load 208gr Amax with imr 4831 and cci 250 primers and federal brass. The rifle shoots very well with this combo
I fireform the brass for my Ackleys and my Gibbs' with the COW method. Works great for me. I live in the country and I fire them straight up in the air. I found firing them in the horizontal I'd end up with necks that were longer on one side then the other. Straight up fixed that for me.
I was annealing by spinning the case in my fingers, and I'm sure this will be a lot more consistent.
With the price of brass and the difficulty getting it, plus the quest for more and more accuracy, I think it'll be worth it.
If I have time, I may offer to anneal other people's...
Hello.
Just found this thread, it's old, I know. Sorry if that bothers anyone.
Anyways, does everybody like their Bench Source annealers? Any issues? By chance, is there a way to get another group buy on them going?
And for the guys that have used this unit and...
