    need help from the pros

I had similar inconsistency when using my digital scale. I pulled all rounds that I had loaded and went back to my balance scale...problem solved. How much does one have to spend to get a good digital? The accuracy of 0.1 gr that they claim is bullsh*t.

    Question for the experts

Hi Slipshot, there is one comment within your post on which I will base my reply. You state that the shot may be less than perfect because you may be puffing and huffing coming from lower altitude. Hats off to you my friend for admiting this and you have hit on a very valid point. I hunt elk at...

    Hornady SST Bullets

Hey Canada, hello from a fellow Canadian shooter. My experience with SST's involves my 7mm-08 with which the recoil is mild enough that it doesn't affect the tips. My other SST's are for my Savage model 16 in .270 WSM. Here the clip only allows two shells, again no problem. However, because my...

    Brass Life

Hired Gun...at the risk of sounding a bit stupid, what exactly do you mean by "bumping" the shoulder? I have full lenght dies only and I know that I can back them up so that I size only the neck, would bumping the shouder mean that I'd screw my die in a bit more to run the shoulder through the...

    Brass Life

[ QUOTE ] If you neck size only and anneal every 5-10 times you may get 100 times out of a brass. [/ QUOTE ] I "full lenght" reload for hunting purposes and have not yet ever neck sized anything. Would it not be unsafe or not prudent to neck size only hunting ammo? If I get 2 or 3 loads out...

Temperature and humidity factor - how do they affect my loads?

At around 6:00am here in sunny Alberta, it is approxiamtely 12C (54F). I will be ready and set up at my shooting range tomorow morning by that time. I'll shoot till about 7:30 or so and call it quits. I'm lucky enough to be within 5 minutes of my shooting range and my closest neighbour lives 1...

Temperature and humidity factor - how do they affect my loads?

Again, I hadn't thaught of that, but it makes perfect sense. Thanks Bart_B and all others for your valuable input.

Temperature and humidity factor - how do they affect my loads?

[ QUOTE ] Plus two people can easily get more than a 50 fps difference shooting the same ammo and rifle from bags atop a bench just because they hold the rifle differently. [/ QUOTE ] I must admit that I didn't think of that, but how do the mechanics or physics of holding a rifle...

Temperature and humidity factor - how do they affect my loads?

So, what I now deduce is that temperature affects both external ballistics and powder behaviour. Just a few days ago, it was 25C (77F) here in the evening. I shot some loads of 270WSm using Hornady 140gr, behind 59gr of IMR 4831. Grouping was 1.25" and velocity averaged 3175 fps. Yet the IMR...

    Stevens Rifles

dancoman, it may not be the best gun on the market, but with 1/2" groups it certainly is far from the worse. My daughter calls her 200 "the ugliest gun" in my cabinet, she hasn't seen my old Mossberg 410 bolt action which lives at the very back of the gun safe.

    Shooting buddy

Desert Fox, that is awesome when your best buddy, your best shooting buddy and your wife are all one and the same. I am very fortunate like yourself. My wife and I have just celebrated our 30th anniversary. She travelled across Canada to visit her best friend in Montreal. Her friend's son took...

Temperature and humidity factor - how do they affect my loads?

I've seen various posts where long range shooters record temperature and humidity conditions when making what I consider extraordinary shots. I am currently working up some loads for a couple of my rifles, namely a 270WSM and a 7-08. These days, when I go to the range to test my loads, it is...

Anyone from Southern Alberta on this board?

Hi guys, I'm west of High River, Alberta. Fortunately for me, my neighbours are all ranchers. I shoot out to 400 yds but could easily extend that. Probably will as soon as I get comfortable with it.

    Stevens Rifles

I purchased a Stevens model 200 in 7mm-08 for my daughter, I believe the retail price was $320.00 Canadian. Using Hornady 139 gr. SST's it shoot 5/8" group at 100 yds. This is untouched and outa the box. Can't beat that.

    Nice buck scene

Here is a picture which a friend sent me. This guy does not speak with forked tongue. He knows the person who took the photograph as he is a work colleague. I am a bit of a photography buff (not a nut) myself and just wonder about the camera settings to get this kind of a shot. The picture was...
