    Ruger No. 1?

I'm not entirely sure I agree with all that has been written here. I have some observations to make about a #1A in .243 I worked on for a shore while (selling it now). 1: The factory barrel really wasn't at all a good shooter. Tubb'e firelapping system helped a lot. Obviously, a custom barrel...

    Musings on barrel life...

Sorry, no body centered hexagonal structures here... We're all hoping for the nice, relaxed face centered cubics round these parts! Hexagonal grain martensite is full of nasty stresses that will make your barrel do the twist and other neat things while you shoot!

    Musings on barrel life...

AISI / SAE steel classifications: 41xx - Chromium 0.5% - 0.95% and Molybdenum 0.12% - 0.20% the xx is the standard notation for carbon content 4150 has approximately 0.5% carbon, 4160 has approximately 0.6% carbon. The letters CM after the name are a redundancy - they are completely...

    Musings on barrel life...

After significant research online, I was able to find out that LW50 is Lothar Walther's trade name for 17-4. I guess I was on the right track with the precipitation hardening steels!

Knoxx CompStock, is it BS? VERDICT PAGE 2.

koxx revisited The recoil reduction device in knoxx stocks is installed in a hogue overmolded stock. It is eminently removeable, and could be retrofitted to a more comfortable synthetic of your choice, eliminating the grippiness of the overmolded rubber cheek grabbing ouch. Thinking long and...

Sabots Plastic / nylon sabots are still around. Google sabot accellerator and you should find some hits. A few points you may want to consider: 1: not for short range Sabots take between 25 to 50 yards to reliably separate from their payload. 2: crown critical These things...

SO called experts talking about LONG RANGE SHOOTING....

"In out sport, everyone is welcome to come, everyone can use what they want and there are very few that will not offer to help anyway they can. The 50 cal shooters association is much this same way, that is why I am happy to be part of both." That, BTW, is why I still lurk around here...

    Schuerman Arms

Interesting... Seems there is a precedent for both safety and accuracy.... Hmmmm..... Very pricy, but an intriguing design. Weight can be controlled with the judicious use of titanium, but there again, they're already costly in the extreme... Very interesting indeed.

    Schuerman Arms

Anyone ever heard of / have any experience with Schuerman Arms??? Their rifles look to be awful pricy for a "semi custom" The action design intrigues me, but I have some major concerns. The goal of true CRF being integrated WITH a a bolt face that encloses the cartridge head is a neat thought...

Nesika's for hunting (worried about dust)?

Re: Nesika\'s for hunting (worried about dust)? I would bear in mind that they may be wording things a bit differently that you do... Them saying that they build all their actions on the same tolerance level does NOT neccessarily mean what you interpret it to mean. If the bolt body fits too...

New barrel maker with new technology

Interesting... I did leave out the reaming of the hole... My bad. I have read of at least one BR shooter who polishes the throat with diamond lapidary compund aver x number of rounds... Instead of trying to do this along with the normal lapping,, could a good, consistant, even finish be...

Most accurate? 22-250 or the new Ruger 204? OR other suggestions?

.50 Allen Magnum.... ummmm, what? Brown bears aren't varmints??? SINCE WHEN???

What barrel cleaning regiment and products do you use?

Aluminum rods have 2 problems: 1: they can easily pick up particles of dirt, metal shavings etc. and embed them in the soft aluminum body of the rod., When the rod flexes, these particles can do damage to the bore of the barrel. even if the rod doesn't contact the bore, if a small chip of...

New barrel maker with new technology

True enough... I just re-read the specs on case thickness for plasma nitriding stainless. Maximum reasonable case thickness is .008 inches. While sufficient to drastically protect the bore, not enough to lap and have much left. Ah, well, perhapse just a slightly finer pre nitriding finish to...
