    Pigs in Texas

Write up was from Texas Farm Bureau. Any one with an applicators license and a "special" feed can start poisoning as it becomes available. Kaput is the maker. Sid is bound and determined to poison pigs! Warfarin is not the simply "go to sleep poison" that they claim. Some pigs die slowly and...

    Cooking Hogs?

I quit messing with them when a friend contacted swine brucellosis by field dressing several. He nicked his glove and finger but did not realize it! He was very sick for some time! Wear good heavy cut proof gloves and wash well with a disinfectant, then soap and water. It does not happen...

    Acceptable Accuracy For Hog Hunting

Our standards have really narrowed down in the last couple of decades!! Win Mod 70 with a 4 power Weaver scope and factory 30-06 ammo that would have worked just fine in 1970! I am sure it will work just fine now but we have better! When people could not see open sights anymore and went to a 4...

    Buck Fever

Every time you shoot develop an aiming routine. Find your target (as said, a single hair), aiming device on that single spot, breath in and out a little deeper than normal several times, breath out to the bottom of you cycle, focus on the squeeze. Simple shooting techniques but if you focus on...

Ruger Model 77 416 Rigby Question

My bad! I just looked at mine and the sling stud was for the barrel band! The second screw back holds the iron in place. The sling stud with a sling will get you!

Ruger Model 77 416 Rigby Question

I have one just like it. On mine the sling stud was a screw holding a piece of iron bar for added weight. The barrel band as said is second recoil lug. If it has two screws and the one further forward is the sling stud then someone has changed yours and that is a good thing! The sling stud on...

    Cz 455 22lr barrels

I have a CZ453 varminter. I think it has a little heavier barrel. Shot fair when I got it. I free floated the barrel and made pillars for the action. It now shoots very good! With the single set trigger, fives shot in one ragged hole at 50 yards. I tried a lot of different 22 ammo, mine loves...

    Aging Vision & open sights

There was a company that made a black peep that stuck on your glasses. Looking through a small hole helped make both handgun sights in focus. All that changed when I had my cataracts removed! EDOF lens were not an option for me unfortunately.

I wondered when they changed the law. Outfitter was incorrect. Illuminated reticles in riflescopes are absolutely legal in Colorado. Lighted sights on bows are not. Optics of any type (illuminated or not) are not allowed on muzzleloaders. A sight that projects light as a laser is not.

    What’s your spookiest hunting experience?

Mule deer hunting in New Mexico. We went to check out a new area later in the afternoon. Shadows were getting long rounded a bend in the road there lay a human corpse in a pool of blood! The law was on the way as some else had called it in! The law had lots of questions for us. Next day we drove...

    375 Ruger Longest Range Load

I have shot a lot of pigs and whitetail deer with a 250 grain Sierra Game Kings. I run them right at 2700 FPS. My longest shot has been right at 275 yards on a feral pig. All complete pass throughs. Judging by the exit they open up some at 150 yards on our little whitetail deer and feral pigs...

Hog bait that squirrels (and deer, doves, etc.) don't like

Cows love Pig oil and some of the other commercial attractants! They will break down a fence to get to them! Most of them are sorghum molasses based. Once the other smell flashes off cows come running! Pigs do not like diesel sprayed corn. When the diesel flashed off they will eat it, but it...
