300 RUM or 338 Win Mag?

It's great that you stay fit.It carries over into everything you do. I get what you're saying about doing a lot of shooting helping with handling recoil. After not shooting for a while each winter I need To get used to shooting my 375 JDJ all over again. I have found the recoil is worse if you...

300 RUM or 338 Win Mag?

It seems your rigs are light weight compared to a number of others on the site. Also your muzzle brakes are , shall we say ,not the most effective and yet recoil doesn't seem to be an issue. Some people are able to tolerate recoil, others not.

What's the weigh of your set-up approximately? And the brake? What distances are you shooting?

300 RUM or 338 Win Mag?

Really good information on the 338 Win Mag pistol. Thanks for that. Just when I was going to give up on the 338 you have revived it LOL.

300 RUM or 338 Win Mag?

Thanks for your suggestions Ernie. I appreciate your experience and time replying to this question. While I did state 5-600 yards as my maximum range I guess secretly I was hoping to use this for extra long range shooting this coming summer. I reasoned that the best choice at 500 would also be...

300 RUM or 338 Win Mag?

I've read with much interest about using rifle scopes, but I'm a little nervous about getting my eye that close.

300 RUM or 338 Win Mag?

To start, the brake does not count with the length. Considering the factory magnum contour for both. The 300 Rum will be a Large shank turned down and re-threaded. Not a heavy contour. Plan to use the factory plastic stock. Thinking 180's or 200's in the Rum. 185-225 in the Win. Of course it...

300 RUM or 338 Win Mag?

I am going to do one of these in a Striker original mid-grip. Since I don't have access to Quick Loads and on-line data is scarce, I am puzzled which would be better (trajectory and energy) for mid-range (5-600 yards) on big game. I am limited by state law to a 16" barrel. My feeling is the RUM...

    H50BMG in .338 lapua Improved ???

My barrel is a Broughton 5C, 32 inches long. The load I have been using is 110 grains. It is slightly compressed since the powder comes up to the shoulder of the case and the bullet base ends up about a quarter of an inch below this point. So the load is compressed in the area occupied by the...

    H50BMG in .338 lapua Improved ???

I am surprised that more .338 Lapua Imp. shooters are not using H50BMG with the 300 grain Sierra. Mine Lapua is the 40degree version and I have regularly achieved 2950 fps, extreme spreads in the single digits, and excellent accuracy. Perhaps my experience is unique. What experience have others...

    Switch- Barrel headspace requirements

Thanks for your input eddybo. I am thinking that the kind of clearance you have should be considered minimum clearance in a switch-barrel rifle. Apparently mine was set to zero or very close to it, which I firmly do not believe is practical in a switch-barrel. Of course fine gunsmiths like to...

    Switch- Barrel headspace requirements

Chad thanks for the Rockwell info on receivers and barrels that was interesting. I totally agree with your dissertation on thread wear not effecting headspace. What my experience does not agree with is your explation of how headspace could change. Tha gun is chambered for the large Weatherby...

    Switch- Barrel headspace requirements

Ok. To start Eddie thanks for sharing you experience and knowledge on this topic. As for the front of the action, at least on my rifle, the recoil lug is pinned to the action so it is not free to rotate. Since there is no rotation movement between the action face and the lug so I would not...
