6mm wsm or stw or other varient

Dave, Look at the other discussion on the 6.5 stw. Your goals are easily attainable. Let me know if you have any questions. DF

    6.5 stw

Oh yeah, the other half of the question.....I would use the 1:8" or 1:9" depending on which weight bullets you want to shoot. One could even go to 1:10" if they really wanted to. I have seen some load data on this one guy who built a 6.5 stw for the 100 grain bullets only. He used 1:14". He...

    6.5 stw

Buckdeer, Any true magnum cartridge, the 6.5 stw included can always use the barrel length. However, not living in a perfect world, we all know that they still perform without the extra long barrel. Here are my thoughts, and this is the brutal truth. The 6.5 stw is a great cartridge. With...

    .270Wby Conversion to .270WSM

You can rechamber a 270 wby to a 270 wsm. You would have to set the barrel back since the wby case is longer than the wsm. Due to the fact that the wsm is fatter and bigger around, the wby chamber would then be cut away when cutting for the wsm chamber. I am not sure of your exact...

    VV N 560 powder in the .338 RUM ?

I have tried VVN560 and had pretty good results. It is weird, almost all powders produce .5" to 1" groups at 100 yds. But some bullets prefer certain powders at certain charges. This is what pulls that .5" down to a one hole. I had a little more success with 4831SC. I shot a one hole group...

    338 Ultra, 375 H&H or 375 H&H Ackley

Dakor, The debate of which caliber to use can also be applied to your 6/284. The 6/284 versus the 6/06 or 6mm ackley. And so forth. There are many cartridges out there. It may just boil down to personal preference. I have always said this, people that are interested in guns are an...

    6.5 stw

I averaged .25" to .5" depending on bullet (100 yds from bench). For people to say that this isn't accurate is not true. Any gun or any caliber has the capability to be accurate. It is the variables that need to be adjusted to make it accurate. Many people argue that the 300 wim mag isn't...

    338 Ultra, 375 H&H or 375 H&H Ackley

First of all, you must realize that your gunsmith is a "diehard." He, being like me does not view the extra work as a chore. We do it not only to gain velocity, but because we are diehards. The increase or difference has been the fuel for magazines for the last couple of decades. Look at a...

    6.5 stw

I built a 6.5 STW and have some load data from Layne Simpson. With a 26" barrel and a 100 grain Nosler B. Tip moving 3850 fps. I am having Christensen Arms build me one with a 28" barrel and hoping to improve this a little. The average goes: 100 grain bullets - 3850 to 3950 fps 120/125 grain...
