    7mm build

It was stoopid of me not to mention that I do long-distance shooting only. Certainly wouldn't recommend my 284 Jarrett with the heavy J Allen stock, etc., combined with S&B PMII 5x25 at 20+ total pounds for hunting, let alone a "mountain rifle". Unless you want to reliably shoot game at 1,000+...

    7mm build

My buddy and I each had a .284 Jarrett built 3 years ago. Necked down Winchester 300 WM brass, using the 195gr Berger EOL (ridiculously good BC vs 190 gr SMK) and 74 gr of Retumbo. With J Allen stock, Surgeon action and 24" Proof barrel it travels at 2960fps. This rifle has the recoil of a...

    What's your rifle lineup?

Not sure there's a dime's worth of difference, but Remington .260 with 140 gr berger in custom stock is hard to beat out to 1600 yards with good scope and may be lighter and/or less recoil than your Savage 6.5 WSM. Likewise, .284 Jarrett with the "new" 195 gr berger has excellent G1 BC versus...

What is your Favorite Long Range Scope and Why?

In my experience the glass on the S&B PMII 5x25 series is unsurpassed. Premier scopes (when still being made) are just as good. Kahles another good choice but I prefer mil-dot to MOA reticles; also first focal plane.

    Caliber selection

I had my gunsmith build a .284 Jarrett (7mm) for the new 195 EOL Berger bullet. The necked down 300 WM case takes 72.4 gr of Retumbo and approaches 3000 ft/sec. The G1 .755 BC of the Berger is 40% better than the .533 185 gr SMK that I used to shoot in my former Surgeon Scalpel 300 WM. And...
