IMR 4831 Go to powder for what?

The 300 Win Mag! I been using 71.0gr of IMR 4831 under a 190gr SMK seated .005 off the lands in a Savage 112 HB for years. ( Primer = Fed 215M ) It's consistent and accurate. I'm proud to say I have shot several 1 hole groups ( 3 shots ) with it. Velocity is just under 2800 fps.

    Terrible 30-06 Accuracy

From what you've said in your post your on the right track if your keeping detailed notes and following directions. I've been reloading for more years than I care to remember and have had my share of disappointments. Not to worry, I'm sure you'll figure out something that works. Some...

    30-06 long range bullet

gun)My best load for a 30-06 is the 165 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip. I use a Fed 210 M Primer with 50 gr. IMR 4064. I keep the rounds mag length. It's consistent, and accurate. Works great on Deer sized game. For heavier bullets I'll go to the 300 Win Mag. Hope this helps.

    Savage BAS action lapping?

That's basically what I did in the end. Once I got the black oxide off the raceway it worked the way it should. As for accuracy I have no complaints at all. When I bought the rifle there was no brass available so I loaded up some once fired Federal I had laying around. The load used was a 169.5...

    getting perfect neck tension

I have a 338 Tomahawk which is based on the Remington Ultra Mag case. I prefer to neck the 375 cases down before fireforming them. My reasoning for this is to give the case a little more meat before I turn them down, which in turn should give me a more concentric neck and even neck tension by my...

    Savage BAS action lapping?

I just aquired one of the new Savage BAS rifles. The whole thing is covered with a rough black powder or oxice coating. The problem is that the inside of the action along the bolt races is also coated. This is causing the bolt to bind slightly if you don't pull it back dead straight. I was...

    Savage BAS action lapping?

I just aquired one of the new Savage BAS rifles. The whole thing is coated with a black power or oxide coating. The problem is the inside of the action along the bolt races is also coated. This is causing the bolt to bind slightly. I was thinking of putting a little lapping compound on the bolt...

    Hello from North West Ontario

Hi all, I used to visit the old site a lot. I've been out of the shooting scene for the last 3 years as I've been living and working overseas ( East Africa ). I'm back now and it's great to see a lot of improvements in both the site and technology. I own a few rifles that can be considered...
