Right on! I have a 26" Shilen chrome moly in the same contour. I'm still fireforming brass, only about 75 left, then final load development.
My fireforming loads are pretty accurate, especially when my buddies 16 year old can line up behind the trigger and connect on a cold bore shot @ 790...
Tikka T3 Lite in 270 WSM would fit the bill nicely.
I own one and can't find anything to really complain about. For the price, it is one accurate hunting rifle capable of everything you're looking to do!
If this match grade barrel came from any of the reputable barrel mfc's NO "break-in" procedure is needed. Some of them go as far as saying that no break in is required, but for those of their customers who feel it's necessary, they will provide their 'recommended' break in procedure, for the...
Sounds like an issue my brother was experiencing. His Savage 116 stainless was turned into a 6br. He was using CCI primers and was getting a lot of them that weren't going off, he tried everything...even different primers with no luck.
Eventually I told him to take his bolt apart, clean it...
Jaybic,
That sheds a whole bunch more light on your situation.
That's a terrible story, I can't even imagine the frustration you've encountered with your first custom rifle.
I'm glad to hear that Hart tried their best to make it right even though the issue was caused by incorrect practices...
Well, from the sounds of it...your rifle is the culprit. I would be sending it back to Hart to fix on their dime.
After all, a guy should expect a company to test fire the rifle to check on accuracy before it was shipped, and if it's not less than 1 MOA for a rifle with the parts listed...
What loads are you using?? Relaods? Factory 243 (to fireform into AI)?
If it's reloads, what powder, bullet, brass, primer?
If factory, what are the particulars?
Also, are the scope rings bases etc tight?
always fun for sure!! Last young man I took out (16 years old) had never shot a rifle past about 250-300 yards. I set him behind my 260REMAI shooting 123 gr SMK's out to 790 yards...first shot was a hit, he was pretty amazed!!
Need to get him back out with his little brother (13) and get some...
Could be the rings...replace them. After that, shoot the gun with a front rest and rear bag...get a better recoil pad if you are sensitive to recoil.
Led sleds should never be used for sight in IMO.
Just ran a google on that topic and there are a few guys out there running H1000 with heavier bullets.
First one that came up was a guy on 24hr campfire who was using 45.9 gr of H1000 and 105 gr Amax bullets. He got pretty good groups with a load that had a fairly high SD. Another load he...
Get rid of the lead sled...not the best rest out there for what you're trying to do
a decent front rest and a rear bag is what you should use
I bought a lead sled years ago, used it once & got rid of it for this very reason, then went to the caldwell rock BR rest...it's not the best on the...
