    Stick to the 300wm, 223 is to lite for that fellar. just remember the bear can still eat you. i would use the 223 only in self defense while finding a tree to climb.:)

    i would recommend the slug gun, 3" brieneke black magics if your gun can shoot 3". They are very devistaing round on black things with fangs,and claws. This is the round i carry here in AK, there are plenty of blackies have fallen to these wonderful rounds. Also look for the federal they shoot...

    Boots for Hunting high / backpacking

    I would recommend LOWA PRO HUNTER, i use them for sheep hunting up here in alaska, very tough,warm and they are great for loose rock and cramp on compatible. They also have a complete toe cap all the way around the boot for protection against rocks and abrasions.
