I have around 10 savage rifles. Not one shoots bad with factory stock after fixing the barrel channel to free float the barrel. I usually add a rattle can paint job with sponges so it doesn't look so cheap. I have put a bunch of Boyd's stocks on. Those stocks all have made all my rifles shoot...
That's what my thoughts were with the High country rifle. I have replaced many savage barrels my self. I plan on having my boys shoot this instead of the 7 rem mag. The 280 ai is so close in velocity with less powder...makes sense for me. I'll replace the barrel when its done. It's so...
I just bought a Savage high country in 280ai. Really like this rifle. 22 in with a 9 twist barrel. Just going through the first 100 Peterson brass. So for it shoots 1/2 " groups with imr 4350 and 140 grain bullets just at a mid charge weight to fireform brass. I looked for an 8 twist but no...
About 4 or 5 years ago i rebarreled a savage 110 7RM i bought in high school (1978) with a 24 in shilen match select barrel from James at Northern shooters supply. He suggested an 8 twist. I went with his suggestion. Man...does that thing shoot. James invented the 7 prc....in my mind....lol...
I have the PH on my 35 whelen. Love it. Checked various distances out to 650. Dead nuts. Just got another put on my 280ai....still breaking in barrel. Everyone who has shot the 280ai, friends, sons have said how the love the scope for clarity. I have been letting people shoot it....most have...

Good point....i wont use a bullet. Wanted to try cow methods. Maybe the free 25-06 brass isn't worth messing with. I've ff 30-06 brass to 35 whelen...thats easy. Open to suggestions
I want to fire form some 280ai from 25-06. I'll seat the bullets long into the lands. I see people talk about unique....but i don't know how much to use. My first attempt at this
I also hate to buy $500 raingear only to hope i dont need it. My wife says im tight....i like to say ...im thrifty. Lol. I've found the huntworth rain gear ($50) to be awesome. Kinda lightweight. I bring 2 pairs. If one gets wet i let them dry in camp...carry the other the next day. Works...
I've been loading hammer bullets. Love how easy they are to tune and especially like the velocity i get. People look at me like I'm speaking swahili when i tell the how easy they are to shoot...but dead elk and deer seal the deal. As ButterBean says.. .speed kills....hes almot a prophet. Lol
I shoot a banish 30 on my 300 wby. I dont see any downside. Love it. If I'm shooting more guns i go with the banish 460 ( think). It goes on my 450 bushmaster also. It too does a good job on sound and recoil
