I picked up a like new(probably only mounted once) Warner #1 at an estate sale a couple years ago for $75. Also got a Douglas .224 barrel blank for $20 and several other bargains.

I recommend shooting it as a 45-70 before converting it. I didn't, and I wish I had. It shoots OK, but nothing impressive.

The amount of force you use when pushing the bullet in with the comparitor will effect your measurements. The longer the freebore, the more this is true. Well, so far(about 450-500 rounds in), throat erosion is only a few thousands and the fire cracking is not bad. We see after this years prairie dog trip, plus I'm shooting it for sling practice a little, currently(but have backed the load off for that).

I built my 22 Creed last year and shot 75 ELDs @ 3400ish with RL22. I thought it was going to be king, but I found I prefer the 53 Vmax @4000 out of my 22-250ai, for the most part. If I was shooting 600+, the the 75's were superior, but under that, I like the 53's best. I will be loading mainly...

The 22 Creed and 22-250ai are so close, that performance difference is negligible. The big thing is the availability of small primer brass for the Creed, and no fire forming. Even if your gunsmiths reamer is a bit long in freebore, the light varmit bullets tend to like big jumps anyways. Or...
