    Bore Snake...any problems with using?

I'll estimate I shoot 100 rounds every other month and clean with the snake afterwards using Weaponshield, Prolix, or other similar CLP. I clean the snake afterwards, dry it, and pop it back in the original plastic packaging. I clean with rod and patches once a year. This is with all of my...

    36 bulls 8 different bullets

Well, 2 bits of consolation, anyhow: a) I won't beat myself up anymore about whether I should have had the barrel cut shorter than 22", and b) I might not even pack the bipod for shooting those big mamas under 200.

Sorry about the wrong term. I meant non-monolithic

    36 bulls 8 different bullets

I got the TSX thinking I would likely hit my elk in a bone, and wanted it to keep on plowing, since .308 isn't really a monster-killer. Is all of that info to suggest I'd be better off returning to a bonded core style next year, like the old Core-Lokts?

    36 bulls 8 different bullets

Hope your data isn't too damning: I just bought 5 boxes of Barnes/Black Hills Gold 168gr TSX in 308 for elk this Oct, and I ain't buying more.

    Palming the stock

Thanks Roy, I also just checked out your blog...looks good! I can appreciate the idea of adapting to the rifle, but this idea of "getting the thumb out of the way" was intriguing to me. I have been thinking especially of the AICS, then what both Manners and McMillan offer in terms of a...

    Palming the stock

I would like to know more about this concern, as I am modifying a stock. I would also like to know how it effects shooting AR-style rifles. I would even appreciate a recommendation for a book which would reference this and other long range techniques, since google yielded next to nothing about...

    Rifle Balance?

I like carrying front down anyhow, but FWIW, I filled a little, then a little more in the hollow of the buttstock with fiber mesh and slow cure 2 part epoxy from hobby store (cheap). Upon the 2nd pour, the balance feels "just right," and I'd say I added about a pound total. It's still hollow...

Remington 700 SPS Varmint, amazing results!!

Lots of people say the barrels look ugly, but you rarely hear about bad accuracy! I just bedded the stock on my synthetic ADL varmint 308 and it shoots just like that.

    Free Floating Problem

From what I have studied, one should bed to the balance point of the barreled action, which on my varmint contour is about 2" forward of the recoil lug...especially if I don't bed the tang and action (!?) On the pressure point question, if it is very little like 1/16- 1/8" (or could be sanded...

    Free Floating Problem

In addition to knowing the answer to this: "It makes more sense to me to bed and THEN remove the pressure point. Does that logic coincide with gunsmith reality?" I am also curious to know about the value of bedding the recoil lug (and 2" forward) only, and NOT also bedding the action and...

    Free Floating Problem

I have only worked on one rifle, but have spent enough time reading and playing around with epoxy to make me cringe when people consider re-barreling before they figured out what was wrong with the current install. To get accuracy, you want to isolate the variables...when you remove a...
