    Bear protection handguns?

It takes a relatively long time for an animal expire from a rifle shot to the vitals. Upwards of 30 seconds. That’s a long time to be attacked by a bear. And every pistol is doing less damage than a rifle. CNS shot is instant off button. At least if it’s charging, it’s coming at you head first! 😂

    Bear protection handguns?

Why is that? Any ammo that passes the FB barrier test passes through; 2 sheets of 20ga steel and 12-18” of penetration in ballistic gel. 3/4” plywood and 12-18" of penetration in ballistic gel. 1/4 automotive glass at a 45° angle and 12-18” of penetration in ballistic gel. Seems like...

    Bear protection handguns?

Why do you say not for bear? Did you check out the podcast I linked above? Might change your mind. Bear skulls aren’t impenetrable.

    Bear protection handguns?

Some very interesting thoughts on ballistics, CNS hits, and how well people shoot handguns.

Great groups but not great SD

Edit: missed the above post, with same podcast link 🤦🏻‍♂️ Have a listen to this. By the numbers how much SD affects grouping at distance. TLDR; missing a wind call by as little as 2mph will have more effect than chasing single digit SD.

    Rifle for Granddaughter

It’s sad that you have to say this, and have to use age is a justifier. Beautiful rifle! I’m sure she’ll love it, and the time you spend shooting/hunting with her, even more so!

What’s up with Hornady’s reloading podcast?

No that we’ve discussed seating depth not being so important, SD doesn’t matter much either! https://shoot2hunt.com/ff-ep-7-mv-sd-for-lr-hunting/ Whe he starts stalking about the WEZ calculations, and 1st round hit percentages, that’s were I think these discussions about seating depth...

Just got mine today. My old Caldwell was not convenient to set up, and is pretty much worthless now.

What’s up with Hornady’s reloading podcast?

I’ve seen more complaints of “blowing up” at closer ranges. If your friends can analyze the bullet performance, they must have recovered their game. Some people prefer a bullet to maintain weight, and make 2 holes in an animal. ELD-M and ELD-X are not designed to work that way.

What’s up with Hornady’s reloading podcast?

I guess we’re talking about 2 different points I’ve never intended to imply everything Hornady sells is gold. I’ll concede, you win.

What’s up with Hornady’s reloading podcast?

Ok. Not really relevant to the podcast or cartridges they’ve designed. I don’t think anyone has claimed every box of Hornady ammo in other manufacture designed chamberings is going to shoot well.

What’s up with Hornady’s reloading podcast?

Sure. Not every box of ammo is a home run. Especially in a cartridge that was designed in the 40s (300bee) that’s not really what I’m talking about I’m saying their precision hunter/match ammo is wildly popular. And so are the cartridges they’ve recently designed. People claiming new...

What’s up with Hornady’s reloading podcast?

was it precision hunter or precision match? If you took it apart, you’re a hand loader, no?

What’s up with Hornady’s reloading podcast?

That's where we are with metallic cartridge design. There's not likely to be anything revolutionary. Long loaded, heavy for caliber, high BC factory loaded ammo, that performs well in almost any factory rifle, and available on the shelf darn near everywhere, is about as big of a jump in...
