Shamu, and fellow hunters.
I too am heading to Idaho to try and hunt some of the areas around that unit. I am using it as a way to celebrate my twin 18y/o boys finishing High school and leaving for the Army. I am an Idaho resident but have been in the military too long and have never hunted...
I just got a box of Berger VLD Hunters and am using RL 23. I want a good starting place. I did do a few test runs at 73gr and about .020, .030, .040" off the lands. The group was ok but the velocity's were around 3130 with an ES of 17. I am thinking the sweet spot was around the 020" to .030". I...
I just found 79 grains of H1000 to be the best for me. I’m shooting an X-Bolt 300 Win Mag with a 26” barrel. The bullets I like are the ACCUBOND LR 210’s and I shot a 1/4” group at 100yds with .035” off the lands. I thought I was going to shoot my barrel off till I found this sweet spot. The pic...
So I just some RL 23 and H1000. I see in the Nosler load data a starting point H1000 but nothing for the RL 23. Does anyone have a good safe starting point? I’m thinking this will start to fix my ES issue. Also, resized all the necks to .002 and things are starting to look good.
I’m using RCBS Chargemaster and just loaded 12 more rounds with RL22 I used an additional scale to eliminate the possibility of a powder error. I also checked the resizing and depriming pin to make sure it is .306. I’ll see how it shoots with that powder and now I’m researching annealing...
Yeah, I’ve also seen a lot of guys using H1000. The more I think about it, is crimping the case an important step for ensuring the pressures remain the same and in-turn the muzzle velocities the same?
Ok, the temps are high 80’s to low 90’s in the shade. I can see that the neck tension could be one of my issues, and I could try another powder. I’ve heard RL 23 is really temp stable, so maybe I’ll try that one.
I’m shooting a 300 Win Mag and have really found a love for reloading. Im loading using RL 17 at 68gr. each and the bullet I’m shooting is a 190gr ACCUBOND LR in hornady brass. My groups are nice and tight but my velocities are varied by as much as 100 FPS. All cases are measuring the same, and...
