Colorado GMU 53 and hunting mulies as well?

The trail between lamborn and landsend, haven't personally been on the other. I have only used the trail from the top of lamborn going down but a work buddy came from the bottom up last year and the trail was still good then. Dave

Colorado GMU 53 and hunting mulies as well?

If it rains/snows and you are planning to leave the next day or so our only option is hope the ground freezes or the sun comes out. Gumbo is not fun to deal with. There is some parking along the access road just watch for no trespassing signs which are clearly marked for private homes-driveways...

Colorado GMU 53 and hunting mulies as well?

That will depend on the temps and sunshine. We have had to pull out at midnight and then it wasn't much fun. Quit taking trucks in years ago and only use 4 wheelers because of it with redial tires also. They can get around ok but not loaded down or with a trailer till it dries or is frozen. The...

Colorado GMU 53 and hunting mulies as well?

Have friends that come in from Crawford side but the trailer head is short, then it's all wilderness. Pull up Google earth and look for the trailer from Crawford up to Interocean Pass. That's the best trail to access the top of Lamborne and Coal. That is the best country for deer along with the...

Colorado GMU 53 and hunting mulies as well?

If it rains or snows the road is impassable. It hasn't been maintained by the Forest Service for a long time. The Ranchers Assoc. will maintain the lower section to some extent. They have closed most of the secondary roads. The trail to Interocean Pass even stops well short. Take a look at...

First custom build 6mm-06 looking for data.

John given your 28 inch barrel try to find some RE-33 or you will leave a lot of velocity on the table. Been there done that with faster powders. As far as chambers, mine is pretty much built to bench rest standards. I can fire a cartridge and go ahead and reload it with no resizing needed. My...

First custom build 6mm-06 looking for data.

With the 105 Hybreds I am running 62 grains of RE-33, Fed 210M primers and .005 jump. The load is averaging 3469 again with a 28 inch barrel. I also use a long drop tube. For brass I use laupa 06 brass and step in down first with a 270 die, then a Redding full length s die with a .292 bushing...

First custom build 6mm-06 looking for data.

I currently have a his and hers in 6-06. Hers has a 26 inch barrel that I use 95 Bergers in with Retumbo. Mine is 1 28 inch Boughton that I use 105 Bergers in with RE-33. I used 240 Weatherby loads as a guide when I started loading for them. 6-284 data can be used as well. capsity is fairly...

Colorado GMU 53 and hunting mulies as well?

We have been hunting 53 for many years. There are a few deer but nothing like it was in the late 80's. Most deer are low on private land where we hunt. We have seen a few very nice bucks over the years in the high country but none of us are willing to use points with the population as low as it...

    6.5 MM STW Reloading Data

Working load in mine currently 142 Sierra,84 grains H-50BMG using 215M. Going to try RE-33 also with 130 C.E. bullets maxed out at 81 grains. Gun doesn't like that bullet though. For 140's I am going to start at 74 grains and work up. Dave

    high power 6mm

Another option is 6-06, I currently have a his and hers. I neck down Lapua brass and am getting 3500 plus with Berger 105's. Hers uses 95 Berger's. The 6-06 has no feeding problems if you need a second shoot. Barrel life is ok if you don't get it hot. 1500 yard shoots are doable. Dave

    Steamboat Lake Outfitters/Comanche Wilderness Outfitters?

My taxidermist strongly recommended I go with Comanche Wilderness when I have enough points to do an Eastern Mule Deer hunt in CO. He has hunted with him. I can get his phone number if you need it. Dave

    Colorado Units 53 & 63

See will be crowded, 10-12 of us, been doing it 20 plus years. Lots of Oak brush down lower and usually will have Deer hunters pushing things around. Take a look at Interocean Pass. Not much pressure up there but it's a 2 hour plus. Makes a great spike camp and a down hill pack. There are some 4...

    My Girlfriends first deer

I'll be dang, Boyd and Darrel, always wondered where you two disappeared to. Many different forms later but nice to see you still around. You two are part of the group that got me into this great activity. Thanks. Dave
