Ar or Bolt action for yotes?

Liked the M-4 I carried well enough for the job at hand, but for yotes... can't justify losing 200+ fps. I know it's not a lot but it's enough to make a difference. Totally depends on your setups and terrain though. If you're not shooting anything past 350, there's nothing wrong with that AR...

Best factory .22-250 rifle out of the box

To what MildBill was saying- you can get the Savage in a 14 twist down to a 9". I had a Savage 110 and it out shot me regularly. Love the accuracy produced by these rifles, never cared for the sloppy action though. Just didn't feel like a solid gun but that's about the biggest nit-pick I had...

    Running Yote

I'll add that even with the velocity increase, it shouldn't be stable but i haven't had wild groups or keyholing.

    Running Yote

I should have been more clear. I meant the powder from Hodgdon called Superformance, not the loaded ammo. It's got most other powders beat by 200 fps with 60 gr bullets out of the 250.

    Running Yote

Might want to try Superformance under a 60. Shoot em fast enough and they'll work out of a 14 twist unless, and I doubt, I got the special rifle.

    308 vs 270

short answer: yes, it's been done and will without a doubt do it in the future, but there are better rounds that will do it quicker and more cleanly. I'm sure I'm offending many by saying it, but in my opinion, the .308 is an adequate 350-400 yd elk gun at most. 650 ft-lb's at 650 yds is a...

Anyone else tried the Hornady 35 gr NTX?

Thanks Redhead, I actually just added another fox to the NTX's kill tally. Hope to try it on a yote soon but they're not making it easy. It's held up well with max loads of 8208 XBR and that's kicking them out at around 4400 fps so I guess they can handle a little speed. I've got them loaded...

Anyone else tried the Hornady 35 gr NTX?

Probably not a 9 twist, better left to the 1 in 12" or slower. I've got a 14 in mine and it works great. You could contact Hornady but I seriously doubt they'd say any different. I didn't shoot less than a 50 gr when I was shooting a 9" in my 110 savage .223. It shot the 55-69's extremely well...

    Interesting morning of calling

It happens often, most of us just don't like to talk about the ones that get away!

Anyone else tried the Hornady 35 gr NTX?

Just curious to see if anyone has tried the NTX's (lead-free) from Hornady on cat's or fox, shoot, anything for that matter? I saw a foxes eyes at about 50 yds but she took off through tall grass and I didn't see her again until she got up the hill on the back of the property 330 yds later. I...

    Tikka Accuracy Problems

Just my two bits.. My process since purchase. I have a T3 Lite in .22-250 Rem. After proper barrel break-in I used some JB's to polish up the bore to ease the cleaning process and increase shots between. I did this after each time I cleaned for the first 3 cleanings, after break-in, not...

.40 S&W or .45 ACP for song dogs???

No offense, but I would suggest that you haven't shot anything with a 9mm- .45 at the same distances that you use your shotgun. If that's not the case than I think you suggesting the OP should invest in different gear than he's got should warrant you're purchase of, at least, a .600 Nitro...

    A few coyotes less

is that a trapped yote or is a .22 cal hole alright with him?

    Got busted tonite

did fair in my neck of the woods tonight- the coyote was trying to get out of Dodge and she thought she was safe enough at 349 yds when she looked back to show me those sparkling eyes one last time gun)50 gr VMAX cut her trip short. Busted a hole in the fox, blasted expansion at close ranges...

Finding where your bullet meets your lands

I don't have my OAL guage right now and am doing the 'hick in the sticks' thing... worked alright in my varmint rig. slightly pinched a already fired case enough that it would hold a bullet when pushed into it, just set the bullet into the neck and chamber the round.. then back the bullet off...
