How'is the ELK looking in CO this year

Just did muzzleloader there, more bulls than I have ever seen(been hunting there over 25 years), almost every day....but I was hunting bucks, poor deer, deer moved down 3-4 thousand feet due to poor feed, but elk remained up high. I predict a good season for you!

    6.5 mm ?

6.5 WSM--due to the fact that vel. X bullet weight X powder burnt = highest ratio for all things combined All other things considered--Savage(due to out of box accuracy vs. cost of custom )w/ a 26 in. barrel(everyone has an opinion about the best barrel maker) Is truely a fine killen'...

Looking for a good flintlock for deer

Been a while since you posted, but....have owned and hunted with both, have a custom I built now but out of the two I liked the Lyman the best. a far as shooting 150 yards......the round ball loses too much energy past about 80 to 90 yards to reliably kill. Unless you use a conical??

questions about bullet weight vs twist ratio

as LouBoyd stated....published data is just part of the over all scheme of everything. We can run numbers till we are blue in the face(too many factors) but when it comes down to brass tacks......we shoot....and we weigh the results with the evidence we gain. Brimm

questions about bullet weight vs twist ratio

the longer the bullet, the more contact with the barrel , the more need for faster twist. Hard to over stabilize a short bullet....easy to understabilize a long bullet. Brim

questions about bullet weight vs twist ratio

Best program for this is the Sierra Infinity V6 program by Sierra bullets, was written by two aerospace guys, will give you the minimum twist rate you need for any bullet(probaby why your...

    Need Lightweight Recommendation

a 260, 7mm-08 or 308 are all great choices, especialy if you are going to handload. Of all three rounds the .308 is the most verstile with the widest range of bullet weights(110 to 200) so you could duplicate anything the other rounds will do and more, and since your not shooting long range...
