    Barrel recommendations

I had a ruger m77 mkii rebarreled. Sent it to douglas and got it back in less than two weeks.

For accusing me of conspiracies you have a huge imagination. Apparently you did a lot of filling in between the lines - just not accurately. I honestly can not figure out how you came to make the assertions about me claiming infamous credit or bringing up Charles Whitman. Your way off base...

    New primer company

I know there is four play behind the primer shortage because I'm not an idiot. High volume stuff like 9mm and 223 doesn't worry the feds. The only weapons we can obtain that scare the government are rifles that have long range capability and that is what this shortage has targeted. Brass...

    New primer company

Primers can be made faster than any other component so the reasoning that ammo companies are buying all the primers doesn't add up. Many retailers receiving primers are simply putting primers on gunbroker and not stocking there shelves. Many larger retailers have employees buying them straight...

    Mark V 300 WBY

Douglas had a new barrel installed in less than 3 weeks might be something to consider.

I do see where your coming from having all the components for 270 wby. I have spent the last 8 months obtaining components for my 340 wby Build

    Mark V 300 WBY

The new bullet weights in .270 caliber do make it much more capable. Finding brass is time consuming right now. It took me several weeks to find Peterson 300 wby brass to neck up to 340. Personally I would still go with the 7mm wby in the OPs situation - I also agree it won't make much...

    New primer company

If expansion primer company actually starts producing primers I will probably exclusively switch over to them. I feel as if current primer manufacturers have stabbed the shooting community in the back

Shouldn't be hard to sell the 270 wby brass -

    Mark V 300 WBY

Comparing recoil, bullet selection , down range energy, trajectory , frontal area --- with the criteria being ELK--- logic favors the 7mm wby all day, every day. The only reason OP wants to move down from 300 wby is recoil. The 270 wby will not offer any noticeable reduction in recoil over 7mm wby.

    500-800 yd elk rifle

I ended up restocking my m77 mkii with a Boyd's laminate ,glass bedding , timney trigger. Still not super accurate but I shoot it better. I then took my m77 mkii 7mm rem mag and Sent it in to Douglas had them out a #4 contour 26 inch SS .338 WM barrel on it. I installed a bell and Carlson...

This makes sense if recoil is the main factor. The 7mm wby has more bullet options- To me it seems as if the 7mm is a good caliber to draw the line for a DEDICATED ELK cartridge.

    Mark V 300 WBY

If you want to go down from the 300 wby in recoil, and elk are the goal it seems obvious 7mm wby is the way to go. Forget about the 6.5-300 and .270. Also stick with a wby cartridge in a mkv

    338-06 vs 8mm-06 vs 35 Wheelen vs 375 Wheelen vs 9.3x62 POWER!

In regards to OP between 338-06, 35 whelen, and 9.3x62 I believe the whelen loses to both the 9.3 and 338 due to lower sectional density bullets. If big bears are involved i want SD over 300 at over 2400 FPS. The whelen does not meet this standard easily with bullets I would find suitable...
