Good luck! Can't wait to see your finished product. The thought of a 6.5swede in a short action is very intriguing.

    Tikka T3 Light Ammo

I totally understand where you are coming from. It's a good idea to determine what has worked for others in a particular rifle before going out and paying 40-50 bux per box for something that isn't going to shoot well. Only to be left with 14-16 rounds of ammo leftover sitting on a shelf. I have...

    Solo backpackers ???

I hunt solo more now, in my 50s, than I ever have. I don't mind it at all however, things get tough after a kill and you have to do all the work by yourself. It sure is gratifying.

    Favorite Hunting clothing brand advice!!!

There is a lot of truth to that. I like my wind stopper gear and it generally keeps me very warm but there is a big difference between 30mph wind at 10° and 30mph wind at 30°. Especially when you stop moving for a minute. My Grandfather always said "the good thing about getting old is that it...

    Favorite Hunting clothing brand advice!!!

Personally I don't think 1 brand covers all my needs and certainly some can justify the cost more than others. I have several pieces of Cabelas and Gander Mnt technical gear (old) that suit my needs fine. Boots and Base layers are still the most important to me for warmth and breathability. If I...

What type of shelter do you use most often for backpack hunting during rifle season?

Don't laugh but I have been using the same Eureka Apex tent since 1997. It isn't the lightest but it is durable and dependable. Never leaks and bouces right back if overloaded with snow. I bought a Diamond 2 person for a hunt with my cousin coming up this year. Outside of winter and fall I get...

THEE only gun you'd never part with

TheBobCat....dang it man! You have had me thinking about this one for days. I have several family heirlooms that I will never part with but if I had to run out the door with only 1 firearm and never return, I'm taking an AR-15. If I was forced to live at home the rest of my days with only 1...

    Builds getting heavier and heavier

The line is certainly a personal preference but you are right on the money. Scope selection is how I dictate the build. If I'm building a flatland rifle for deer/antelope i tend to use bigger optics and 10+lbs rig. At my age humping a 10lbs rifle in the mountains is not welcome so im back down...

What age do you think kids should start shooting?

Without reading through all the comments, I apologize if I cover something already said. I feel quite qualified to comment on this subject. Having raised 5 children of my own and trained 100s of people of all ages to shoot safely, I'm here to tell you that there is no definitive answer to that...

How far are you accurate with your slug gun?

    Sounds like a lot of bragging goning on so here I go! Remington 1100 20Ga W/ Winchester 2 3/4" Partition Golds. 1" groups @ 100yards and I have made plenty of Kills @ 200-250 yards. 2.5" High @ 50 yards is 1.75" High @ 100yrds is ZERO @ 125yrds is 6.25" low @ 200yrds and 11.5" low @ 250yrds...
