    270 WSM For Elk

One rule of thumb I like is to run the ballistic on your cartridge. Take the weight of the animal in this case elk 700 lbs multiple that times 2 gives you 1400. A safe recommended distance IMO would be wherever your cartridge reaches 1400 ft/lb

SOLD/EXPIRED LH 338 UM - hill country rifles

Barrel is 26" factory sporter contour I also have dies and brass that I will include $1500 Rifle will shoot the 300 Berger in the .75-1 Moa range. It just performed the best for me with the 225 AB ~150 rounds through the rifle

    Re-barrel

You may want to consider the .300 or .338 win mag as potential options. The .300 win would give you more options as far as bullet choices but both are quality cartridges capable of handling most if not all game out west.

    Shot placement on elk

I agree with the points both of you have made here. The things you are describing I apply to what I call margin for error. My expierience with people that don't have the opportunity to hunt elk every year is that they are used to taking game that is considerable smaller like deer. A shot...

    Shot placement on elk

I speak with people regularly about rifle and bullet selection for taking elk. One of the bigger things that I think people over look is shot placement which in my opinion is more critical then cartridge selection. Those familiar with elk hunting understand how big and tough a bull elk is and...

    .338 Norma Improved????

I built a 338 Norma improved 3 yrs ago (35 degree shoulder)and have been hunting and shooting it for the past 2 years. Rifle is built on a Stiller tac 338 action, 26" krieger barrel w/break, McMillan atg stock, Jewell trigger, rem 700 floor plate. Topped with a 20 Moa rail and a Nightforce...

    .375 Norma

Thanks Swamplord I am on the same thought process as you on this one. My early estimates on case capacity are +/- 90 grains of H1000 or equivalent I am looking at a 26" # 5 fluted brux barrel and I think it should push the 260 gr Accubond in the 3000 - 3100 fps range my stiller action showed up...

    .375 Norma

It is just a "want it" rifle. I have been going back and forth between the .375 and the .358 calibers and like the Norma case as it allows me to use standard action lengths. I am leaning to the .375 for bullet selection, although I think the .358 would perform nicely on the Norma case. I have...

    .375 Norma

I already have multiple rifles on the .338 platform and want to try something new. Pretty sure I can get more out of the 260 grain .375 than I can the 250 grain .338 I might be wrong that is why I'm asking if anyone has expierence with this round.

    .375 Norma

I am looking into the .375 Norma was wondering if anyone could give me some reviews on the round. I like the thought of the 375 on a standard length action. I would be interested in what you guys have done and seen with this cartridge.

    Choosing a long range caliber

IMO there is a big difference between shooting paper at a 1000 yds and ethically taking big game if you want something that fits both look at the 6.5. If your hunting elk look at the .30 cal platform and up I like the ballistics on the 300wm up to 1000 but I think that is the limit. I would put...

6.5 284 Norma Are any of my loads good enough for long range?

IMO 2950 fps out of a 140 in a 6.5 is about all you will get you can push it faster but your just burning powder at that point .... That said I shoot a 6.5-284 on a rem 700 with a 26" brux barrel I shoot 54 gr of retumbo fed 215M 140 Berger seated .020" on the land. 5 shot average (100 yds) of...
