I have seen it many times over. It is very common at higher velocities to have the pedals break off and the rest just pencils through.

Sid, how do you like the 7-300wm? I have been thinking about rebarelling my STW to the 7-300wm. Originally that is what I wanted but I let the smith talk me out of it. What welocity are you shooting the the 180 bergers?

I shot my savage 243 barrel out using 95gr bergers. Killed many deer and coyotes. They perform great. I used H4831sc powder and had velocities right around 3100fps.

My rifle is a single shot so the shoulder does not hinder feeding for me and there is no problems when setting the shoulder back. As far as brass life I have not had any failures yet but I only have 4 firings on 50 pieces.

I shoot 110gr of US869 out of mine. 30" Brux and I get 3030fps with 300gr MK. I use Federal Match primers and load the bullets 10thou off the lands.

I love the 123 Scenar out of my 6.5-284 at 3160fps using Vit N-560. Does not kill very well though.

You have to make Savage prefit barrels. I have not put one on from another supplier that has not shot significantly better than the factory barrel.

I shoot 123gr scenars at 3215fps out of a 26" 1-9twist using N560.

I use CCI 450 almost exclusively in all my small rifle applications.

Chad which bullet do you use out of the 6.5-284 for shooting varmints?

I have a savage with a shilen on it chambered in 20 Practical and I love it. I am getting 3950fps out of the 24" barrel with RL 10X under the 39gr blitzking.
