have a friend that has 3400 plus rounds down his comp rig and it still shoots however he is going to rebarrel anyway
this is with no set back either !!!
this is all with RL15 and 123 scenar combo
A BIG +1
This my friends is the smartest and best Post on this site in a long time.
I suggest reading it and re-reading it
Good Job and Merry Christmas to you all
Re: I almost cant bring myself to say it. Turning to the darkside (you will be shocke
First and foremost its great that you have "owned" with your 308...... good job
I mean look at the barrel life and the inherent accuracy of the 308 enough said
however I shoot the 6.5x284 and like...
go with the 6.5-284
great brass to start with then just load and shoot
you can use the short action great however your single shot only with long bullets
good luck
Thanks Boss that's good info and I totally agree with the recoil part however the nice part is they are very lite
Now the question .....
is the 44 mag enough for a Wind River Bear !!!!!!
I have a good friend that has had 3 coopers 2 in 6.5x284 and one in 25-06 and they all shot fantastic
we practice on clay's out to 800 yds a lot
and he can easily hit them
and on paper they are excellent 100 to 800 yards
his grandson (13 yrs) shot a antelope at 706 yds this year...
You Alaskan guys might be able to help
we go into the Wind Rivers in WY for a week
and last year we seen a lot of Bear "sign" and I wanted to carry something in the "Lite " weight range due to the fact we are gone 6 days with everything on our backs and just wanted to know what you think...
That's exactly what I mean ... if you re-read what I said you do not have to fire form a 6.5x284 like you would have to to with most any "AI" type of case
which as you know takes up barrel life, time, money, and so on...
I think your not going to have any trouble finding a "standard" bolt face at all and if thats the case
I would have to recommend a 6.5x284
Excellent bullet choices
High BC's
High Sectional Density
Excellent Brass (Lapua)
Low recoil
And No fire forming to make a "AI" version
+1
go for the 6.5x284
Also to consider the following
great brass (Lapua)
high sectional density bullets
as well as high BC bullets
Lots of options in weight and type of bullets
low recoil
Used it on a 824 meter Cow elk this last wednesday ....DRT
NOT true
get your master out and look at the far right side same thing applies as the left side in mils
Target size that you need to know then what your MOA spacing reads in your scope then line up your findings and read the yardage in the left column same as mills
10" target that is 2.0...
Getting back to the original post ....
The bottom line here is that Bud Martin made an excellent shot in the goodie box
and the animal is done...
Thanks for sharing the pics and the original post
good luck and take care
