Scope height, cheek weld and eye relief

I'll be a bit contrary here, I'm a big fan of mickey mousing... with big caveats! Try a cheap slip on pad, try some cheap high rings from Wal-Mart, try a duct tape cheek rest. All of these things are very low-cost-low risk ways of figuring out what works. Once you get the constraints right with...

Daughter wants a new (smaller and lighter) rifle....

If you can find one, you might want to try one of the Savage Lady Hunter models. Women are built differently than men and the stocks on those are built with women in mind. Lighter weight means stock design is even more important for recoil management. Women tend to need a shorter length of pull...

    SOLD/EXPIRED Wtb wtt 270win reamer

I've used these guys for a .260, .308, and .270 Gibbs and they are great to work with. Even let me hang on to the .260 for a couple extra days no charge when I was having troubles getting it threaded! http://http://www.4-dproducts.com/displayitem.php?rowid=126&tname=rental about $40 to rent...

My first post & a basic question.......

6 BR is notoriously easy to load for and will get you to 1000. Pretty easy to find bits and pieces for too. 1000 Yard World Record Personally I recommend a Savage for ease of swapping out parts later on if/when the mood strikes.

    6.5 Creedmore VS 6.5x284

I'd settle this by deciding which bullet you want to shoot and your max range that you would want. Set a minimum level of energy you're comfortable with (I've seen anywhere from 600 ft/lbs to 1400ft/lbs) to make a clean kill. Then go to a ballistics calculator and figure out how much velocity...

    m91/30 backup gun build

Lot's of info on the surplusrifleforum.com site. Here's a link to one of the best looking builds I've seen of late. Surplusrifle Forum • View topic - Mosin Nagant Sporter Project-With Range Report I wouldn't count her out on accuracy just yet. If you've got a good bore, a little work at...

    First DIY Savage, Barrels?

You can rent the headspace gauges here for $8.00. Great company to work with. I've used them for a .260 and my latest .270 Gibbs. 4D Reamer Rentals, Exclusive Source to Rent Chamber Reamers & for Renting Gunsmithing or Shotgun Tools

    600 yard Qualification

I wouldn't restrict the type of rifle. That could be a barrier for getting more people involved in the sport down the road. One really good qualification that I have seen is that a person who wishes to shoot at the longer range must first present a ballistic card for the ammo and gun they are...

Try the partfinder on Savages website. Pretty reasonable prices. https://store.savagearms.com/partfinder/ Just enter the serial number and pick the parts. Pretty reasonable prices. Just a tip, if the action wasn't originally for a hinged box mag, try doing a google image search for one that...

    Where in WA?

Yeah the short seasons are nuts! I'm also going to miss being able to bow hunt and rifle hunt for elk each year. Didn't matter much this year though. With the move, job and grad school I didn't even think about trying to hunt. Hoping for next year. I'm building a .270 Gibbs that's in the final...
