.240 Weatherby Magnum: The Hotrod 6mm

Son got a drag bag/shooting mat for Christmas, still had just over a box of 100gr factory ammo for the 240wby so let him set up a gong at a touch over 450y and have a play. One shot at 100 to check zero than he put the first 2 shots into 1" he called the 3rd shot as high, it was if you call 1.5"...

    best whitetail deer bullet

Another who favours conventional cup and core projectiles for deer if using anything like a suitable cal. If I was chasing deer with a 22cal then would look at a premium or mono and run partitions in my 240wby for our sambar (500lb). Premium bullets certainly have their place but aren't needed...

What are rifle (s) are you taking to elk hunt this year?

Unfortunately no elk in Aus, closest we have size and toughness wise would be sambar. Have carried 240wby, 375H&H & 45/70 after them this season, so far the 240wby is the only one on the score board.

    When does a 3-shot group become 3 1-shot "groups" ?

Interesting question, I don't know the answer or if there is one. Obviously the longer between shots the more chance for conditions to change. Testing in a similar way to how a rifle will be used in the field is what I try to do.

Energy or bullet diameter most important?

For the guys that advocate the use of highly frangible bullets at ELR, how many of you are actually after a bullet that is highly frangible at ELR or are you using them because a bullet that is highly frangible at short range actually performs more like a regular cup and core hunting bullet when...

Amateur Hunter Question - SE Virginia

Water, food and shelter, deer or mice they all need the same things to survive. If you can work out the preferred source of each in a particular locations you are well on the way.

Longer range group almost as good as short?

Statistical anomalies are all they are, shoot enough groups and both ranges and they will disappear.

Energy or bullet diameter most important?

It is pretty simple, it isn't energy that kills it poking holes through vital organs that results in death. The bigger the hole the quicker the kill. How to make sure the hole goes all the way through the vital organs and how it can be made bigger is what we are really discussing. Most bullet...

.240 Weatherby Magnum: The Hotrod 6mm

I am expecting great performance from the partitions, I wasn't expecting the accuracy they have displayed so very happy in that regard. The factory Norma 100gr loading has surprised me with its performance, they claim 3400fps but the crohny shows they are doing 3200fps from the barrel of mine...

Anyone have any luck with a good .17HMR?

Have had my Sako quad for nearly 10 years and cant fault it. Sporter weight barrels and they will all shoot moa or better. The HMR is the least effected by wind but you need a very calm day if you want to shoot Moa at 200. With a good hmr ammo quality is the accuracy limitation, most batches...

.240 Weatherby Magnum: The Hotrod 6mm

Well retested the load the put 3 into just over 0.5moa and got a similar sized group. Decided to go with it and have been exploding varmints ever since, like a lazer to 300. Swift barrel is just about gone still shooting moa but no longer the sub 0.5moa shooter it was. Realised the swift had...

Trouble Loading for a 257 Wheatherby

Not much experience with Wby's mine is limited to the 240 I have. Load development was virtually no existent. Factory 100gr loads were shooting around moa so initial development was with light weight pills 55/58gr for a varmint preditor load. Being so short OAL was dictated by how much...

    Weatherby Vanguard 2

Only have one S2 vanguard and only purchased it about 6 month ago in 240wby, happy with initial testing, 4000fps+ and just over 0.5moa. I did expect it to perform, have had at least one Howa in the safe since the early 80's the vanguards are made by Howa, only real difference is the bolt shroud.

.240 Weatherby Magnum: The Hotrod 6mm

Finally got around to doing a bit of load development for my 240 vanguard, thought I would start with a varmint load so working with 55grs. Only 3 shot groups as I don't expect barrel life to be great but last 2 loads both averaged over 4000fps and accuracy improved as I worked up. Last loads...

    400 yard deer rifle.

Wanted to try and keep it a budget setup to see what is possible, put a SI sightron 4-12x on it with the HHR. The 2.5moa line should go very close to be point of aim at 400y and the 5.5moa very close at 500y. Middle of winter down here, picked it up a week ago and we have had rain or snow every...
