Best overall powders for 25 06

In addition to those powders already mentioned, I've found good 100 gr TSX/TTSX loads for different of my 25-06's with RL26 and the highest velocities with IMR4955 (if you still have it from before it was discontinued)

Hammer Bullets - Neck Tension and Crimping

Recent range work using 92gr AH trying to keep a well worn M70 25-06 going; NT=3, no crimp, best was about 1in at 100yd while same load crimped 1/8 T into the first groove gave 1/2 - 5/8. over several reconfirming tests. Using Staball 6.5, velocity was just over 3400 fps. More crimp opened...

Have a question for absolute hammer loaders

Bigeclipse, you are right at the same 123gr Absolute/Varget load that I'm using in my 20in Christensen. In my shorter barrel I get just under 2900 fps day in and day out and have never shown any recoil or other sign of being unsafe. When the current batch of loads is expended, I'll mess around...

How critical is measuring powder to .01 grains

Well Said! A batch of loads that are ALL charged 40.1gr is more important than getting 40.1gr when you intended to get 40.0gr. (ie precise vs accurate).

    Reloading Suggestions?

I've seen cases measure the same overall length before and after firing which was no surprise if sized for minimum shoulder bump. Then, when resized, they "grow" about 5 thou. I agree with sedancowboy that it's from compressing the body down which forces the neck forward. To try to minimize...

Heat and velocity puzzle (140g absolute hammers and 180 ELDM)

As others have stated, could be chrono related but don’t discount your initial suspicion….. temp. This past spring I worked up a CFE/51 gr Absolute load for my sporter weight CZ 223. Getting into the warmer summer months my Labradar has confirmed that speeds jump by 100fps when temp is over 75F...

    Beam scale or RCBS Lite

I second Laelkhunter,,,,, I've checked the accuracy of the RCBS Lite against my Chargemaster, dual beam RCBS scale AND a high precision electronic scale and they all agree within +/- 0.1. I also use the Lite for loading at the range because it can dispense powder with the windscreen in place so...

    Anybody reload at the range?

I do load development at the range. Like you, my range is far from home but it's a good range so that's where I go for load development. One range trip is enough to ladder up powder charges, find max, then go back to promising nodes and do seating tests. Different bullets can also be tested...

    Christensen Ridgeline quality / accuracy?

I have a 24in Ridgeline in 6.5 PRC and a 20 in. 6.5 Creed. Since I'm in California, my load testing only used mono's but I found good loads using 124gr Hammer Hunter for the PRC and 123gr Absolute Hunter for the Creed. The Creed put both hog and vension in my freezer last fall. My only issue...

    Hammer Bullets

Alberta, I read that you are loading for a 25-06..... I've been experimenting with 103gr Hammer Hunters in 2 25-06's. One is a standard 1:10 twist and the other is a 1:9. I've gotten sub-MOA accuracy in both of them at over 3300 fps using RL-26. When sighted for a 300yd drop of 5.5 in., it's...

3300fps to fast for Barnes TTSX

My experience with TSX and TTSX in 25-06, 30-06, and 35Wheelen has been DRT with high shoulder shots.... all pass through, minimal meat damage (offside not blown out), but DRT none the less. Of 4 hogs taken with the same 100gr TTSX as the OP's shot from his Roberts, ranges were from 25 yds to...

    Ca approved bullets?

6 northern ca pigs down in their own tracks with Barnes tsx or ttsx. 4 with 25-06, 2 with 35 Whelen. 2 Wy antelope down in their own tracks; 25-06 with ttsx. Barnes work. Was hard to get repeatable load tests with Hornady gmx because of extreme dimensional variance lot to lot. Recent load...

    RCBS CHARGEMASTER LITE YOUR THOUGHTS?

I've used my Charge Master 1500 without problem since it was first introduced many years ago. After trying (wasting money on) several portable scales for load development at the range, I settled on the Charge Master Lite. I power it off a portable laptop recharge battery with AC output and set...

Getting sharp lines when bedding the action?

Kinda late in getting in here..... grandparent duties for distant learning kids keeps you busy! Many good suggestions on bedding techniques so far so I'll only add what hasn't been said already. First, the stock/barrel channel must be opened enough to allow the barrel to sit freely centered...

    Pressure issues reloading for Christensen

I'm looking at, perhaps, a similar issue today. Christensen 6.5PRC handloads, 124 gr Hammer Hunters with RL-26. Getting right at 3200 fps with 10-20 ES except some random shots that are out there about 40 or so fps. After firing, some cases will show ejector marks or give "bolt click" while...
