Does anyone shoot the Burger bullets in their 7 mag? If so, what do you shoot and load
thanks

I've had good luck (accuracy wise) with both the 168g and 180g VLD out of my factory BDL Rem 700 7mm RM.

168g VLD, 64g RL-22, Win Case, Fed 215, 2950fps, 1/2- 3/4 MOA to 800 yards.
180g VLD, 61g RL-22, Win Case, Fed 215, 2825fps, 1/2- 3/4 MOA to 800 yards.

Work ok on deer size animals, but I think I"m gonna go back to 140g NBT's for deer. I've had them (Bergers) act like FMJ"s at close range, and then act like bombs at Long range. A friend has also used the 308" 210g VLD out of a SLOW 30-06 and is getting very big holes in things at close range. Kinda inconsistent for the terminal side of ballistics, IMO. NBT's flat out knock the crap out of deer both close and far. Out to 800 yards the 140's will do just as good...

I don't think any round has more consistently been accused of poor terminal performance on big game animals(deer and bigger) than the Nosler Balistic Tip. I'm not referring to the Berger VLD, nor do I doubt your results, but I think before anyone gets referred to the NBT for hunting they should spend some time researching the tons of complaints about them blowing up with no penetation. A bullet with the same shape and high BC as the NBT is the Nosler Accubond, but it has a good reputation for terminal performance.

Research and knowledge is nice. Before researching complaints you should research (i.e., shoot) your rifle at various ranges, until you know it intimately. Learn the ballistics and trajectory charts. Know where your bullet in flight is going to be at any given range. Then you can sink a Ballistic Tip precisely where it will do it's damage. Never depend on a bullet or caliber to make up for lack of marksmanship. JohnnyK.

I had great accuracy out to 1300 hundred yards with the 168s. I'm shooting them out of a Remington Alaskan - TI with a 24" barrel. Tac driver with 71gr of Retumbo behind them. Have to mess with seating depth off the lands to get your groups to tighten up. I've taken 5 deer out to 590 yds so can't speak to long range capabilities but can tell you, deer shot at shortest distance of 224 yds hit the dirt like hit with a sledge. I've read the reports on a number of bullets close and far failing but that has not been my experience. The biggest problems with Berger is finding them in stock. They've performed excellent in my 7mm and 300 Ultra.

i shoot 162g sst at 71g of H1000 3060fps

and 180 VLD BURGER and 69g of H1000

for 2960fps can hit milk jugs most of the

Berger 168 VLD set to .020" off the lands CBTO
70.0 Gn H1000
Fed GM215M
Hornady case

Cases are FL sized after every firing and annealed. Headspaced off the shoulder by .0015" to .0025". The primer pockets were uniform sized when the brass was new. All cases are trimmed to length at 2.480". The bullets are seated with powdered graphite lube.

This load shoots a < 1/2 MOA group at anything past 300 yards through a semi custom Rem 700, Hart 1/9 26" barrel.

What is your muzzel velocity with that combo?

I shoot the 180s out of my own gun. 28" Broughton on a trued Rem 700.
180 Berger seated 0.010" off the rifling
GM215M Primer
Rem Cases
68 gr Retumbo yielding 2900 fps
It will usually hold 1/2 to 1 MOA out to 1300 yards depending on how all the usual variables stack up :)

Just helped a friend of a friend find a load for his Rem Sendero with the 180s and same components as above ^^ His liked 69 grains of Retumbo to the tune of a .850" group at 200 yards. Not sure on velocity yet, but will be finding out soon.

I shoot:
168g burger VLD
70.1 G Retumbo
CCI BR2 primer
Nosler brass

Custom Howa 1500 SS
Pac-nor 26" barrel 1/9 twist

Have only shot deer with this rifle so far out to 300 yards. They all dropped with massive internal damage.
Shoots 1/2 to 3/4 MOA @ 3025'/sec

168 match hunting VLDS set .050 off the lands
CCI large rifle magnum primers
71 grain Retumbo gave me my best grouping.
1 in 9 twist
Average speed 3025 fps.

Browning x bolt, 26" bbl. 168gr hunting vld's with 71gr retumbo, 0.005 off the lands, cci 250 primer. 3032fps, 3/4moa @ 100yds and 1000yrds. Killed a bull elk last year, one shot drt @ 608yrds.

My 'corrected' speed is 3004 fps.

I took the time recently to 'tune' the load to my ballistics app. I had been using 3020 based on the chronograph data but that velocity number was proving to be consistently low (POI) at distances at or over 600 or more.

The ballistics app I use is an older version of Applied Ballistics.

I have a old remmy sendero that LOVES:
65.2 grs. H1000
168GR. HUNTING VLD
Remington case
WLRM primer
With .11 jump
2763 fps.
Picture is with clean barrel (1&2 are foulers)
