Other than being 74° this forenoon, it was a great day to shoot, especially the first time with the new Timney 512. I took a lot to time between shots letting the barrel cool. Although I'm using BH, I ran one side of a patch between shots. Lots of mirage off the sand today.

how much wind drift did you have to make up for?

Gander, remember when you said you wouldn't want to go back to pellets or a rifle that required them? Well ....... did ya notice that I've been using BH209? The Ultimate ignites it just like any of our production rifles. The bullet MUST be seated tight. One other learned thing about shooting BH from them, when shooting the heavier charges, to keep and maintain accuracy its necessary to swab at least every third shot. With this target and shoot, I ran a patch after each shot but only one side of the patch. Other custom barrel shooters have identified the same with group sizes with heavy charges in custom barrels.

Encore I see you are using the 300gr SST's , how is their performance on game ?

New rifle and shooting to get used to it and gaining confidence, which I why I continue with the SST. My past experience with SST or Shockwave is very negative on game, however that may not be the same for others. I haven't taken an animal with one since they first hit the market and I had the negative experiences.

I've tried a couple different bullets with the rifle, the 300gr BE's and 300gr Scorpion PT Gold. However not with the new Timney. I have 100 PTG's and different sample sabots I'll be trying shortly. I also have some 275gr BE that I'll try. My bullet of CHOICE for hunting however, is Barnes. I'll shoot what I have until I can get my hands on the 290gr Barnes flat base, T-EZ bullets. I'll throw out the supplied sabots and use the H5045 LB. I was told by Randy that the Ultimate shoots them very well using that sabot. I know how a Barnes bullet performs from experience. But..... this new adventure and a new bullet may be in order.

I 've got some SST's that I want to try , will not be able to push them as hard as you guys though . With luck i'll be able to get them up to 1800 fps with black powder so I just wondered how they performed before I shot something with them .

Maybe not a completely fair test but, here's the issue I have with the Shockwave/SST, fired from an Encore years ago with 2f.

300gr SST @ 2,400fps

Why I like Barnes.........
