Hello to all. I posted in a previous post about the 7mm lrm but after talking to a gentleman I'm gonna go with the 7mm-.300win. I'm gonna be shooting the 168gr berger with a 28" Broughton barrel. I would like some others thoughts on this cartridge and yalls likes about it.

If you're only planning on shooting the 168 Berger VLD bullets, then you should just go with a straight 7mm RemMag... Mine pushes them 3,115 MV out of a 26" barrel. That should be more than enough for just about anything.
If you were planning on shooting the 180-class bullets, then I'd say step up to the 7mm-300 WM, 7mm STW, or 7mm LRM.
If you're only gonna shoot 160-class bullets, then I'd say you're only wasting money and time by buying and necking-down 300WM brass. Just go with the regular tried and true 7mm RemMag.

Love mine. 180's at 3120ish from a 27 inch 9 twist tube.
I used a separate throating die so as to be able to have the bullet still in the case neck when it touches the rifling. Helps keep the bullet aligned and let's me chase the lands as the throat erodes and still have lots bullet in the case neck. I thought it may keep the velocity down from having very little free bore and hence higher pressure but it seems to be fine. I use nosler brass and I have found no need to fire form the brass as newly necked down brass shoots the same as once fired.
Built on a trued and sleeved rem 700 bdl allows plenty of room in the mag.

I know I am in the minority here but my favorite 7's are the:
.284 - Throated long for the 180's it's an easy 2975-3000fps gun an has an EXCELLENT case that is proven to be one of the most accurate out there.
7SAUM - Also Throated long 180's can be pushed to 3150 pretty easy and it's just so darn efficient. If you need more than this don't waist your time with a 7 go to a big 30 and end it.
No take into consideration this is just my opinion and I shoot all 28" and longer barrels and shoot everything as a single shot.

Absolutely nothing wrong about a 7mm/300win, and I may end up there on my next re-barrel.
You should however check the 7mm Rogue from RBOS so you know all your bases have been checked.

Since I have a bit of time before I'm set to re-barrel my rifle, I've been considering the 7mm-300Win and had sorta settled on it. "Had" being past tense - the 7mm Rogue that Travis designed looks remarkable!!! I'll be giving him a jingle when it's time for my re-build!
Since your original question is/was posed around 168gr performance in the 7mm/300Win (and since you've already chose the 7mm/300Win), it should serve you very well depending on what you're intending to use it for...

After owning , building and shooting several 7's of different varieties including the 7 Rem mag,7 STW, 7 Rum, 7mm-338 Lapua, I have settled on the 7mm-300 win for my choice in the 7 department. I have put together 5 of them now in a variety of barrel lengths. The latest will soon be done with a 8.5 twist and 22" tube. I like the size of this case compared to others listed. The 300 win case seems to be just the ticket with a nice little advantage in velocity over the 7 Rem Mag without giving up a lot of barrel life that you get all the larger cased offerings. We have pushed 180's to 3200 fps from the 7mm-300 win, but most seem happier at about 3150 to 3175. If you do stick with 168's you will exceed that by quite a bit. I never could get a 7mm Rem over 3100 with a 168 with suitable powders for long range shooting in a variety of temperatures, and staying with in a safe pressure node.
I like a 9 twist for the 7's but would suggest you keep in mind that Berger one day will release their 195 gr 7mm bullet. For that we should consider a 1 in 8 or 1 in 8.5 twist which will also work with 180's and 168's. But I would keep the 168's under 3350 with a tighter twist. Looking at the future of heavier bullets and what they will bring to the table for a 7mm. I would for sure consider the 300 win case. Knowing what I do about the capabilities of a 300 win with a high BC 215 Bullet, it is hard for me not to feel that a 7mm-300 win with an even higher BC 195 at higher velocity would be something to behold. And respectable barrel life to boot.

I like the standard 300 case over the rouge because it dosnt require special dies and the performance is the same.

for the issues of case forming ,trimming, neck turning and finding cases,
I would stay with a standard 7mm mag for any of the 168gr and smaller bullets, and a 1-9 twist, if I wanted something to sling the 190 bullets I would step up to a bigger case, stw or 26 nosler necked up,,,
I used a lilja , bartlein and brux barrel ,,25 to 27in long,,,,
realistically there is not an animal in the world that will know what case fired the bullet that took its life, but being able to buy 7mm mag brass and load and shoot, muchless finding factory ammo about anywhere,
has sold me to stay with the factory 7 mag, happen to have 5 of them in the rack, also have a 7stw that I barreled with a lothar walther barrel, it really shoots the 180 berger hybyrds,,

Hello to all and thank you all for your thoughts and advice but I'm gonna op for the 7mm/.300 win. I've already got a 7mm rem and a .280.. I gonna put them to the side to pass to my son because I received these when my grandfather passed. The rem mag is a wonderful gun I can't complain about the performance but I like to be different. It will be at least 6-8 Mon the before the gun is done I'm about to send the gentleman half payment with in the next two weeks. When this is finished I will post pics.
