I'm looking at purchasing a vortex viper 6.5-20x50 PA scope for my .300 win mag. I guess I have a couple questions. has anyone had any experience with this scope? Am I going to see a big difference between the 44mm objective and the 50mm objective? any opinions on the scope would be great. thanks

They are a good scope. I run a 44mm on my varmint AR. They are nothing fancy, but they work. I doubt you'd ever see the difference between the 44 and 50mm objective on this scope. My only gripe with this scope would be the eye relief. It's fine for my uses, but if your 300 WM is a kicker the PA might not give you as much eye relief as you would want.

basically, the only time you are going to notice a difference between the 44 and the 50 is in lowlight conditions and at longer range at higher magnification. In my opinion, more glass is always better. good luck.

This is a good scope, especially at the price point. I would agree the eye relief is short and I think your 300 will end up scoping you. The Viper also has limited adjustment (65 moa...) if you are trying to go ELR you may want more.

JMHHO, but I'd be more concern on the eye relief as already noted. I prefer an eye relief 3.5" and better esp. on high recoiling rifles like the .300 Win Mag.

vortex falls in that category

Crowsniper, tell us how you really feel!!!

Maybe he figures is he puts the money into good tires instead of a scope, then he wouldn't have to use the scope for the wheel chock!!

I'm not a fan of the Vortex, but I don't think Id use one as a wheel chock! I would however, with a Simmons...

thanks for the replys everyone. sorry it has taken me a while to reply but I have been away from my computer for about a week. I am glad eye relief was mentioned because I had not thought about that and it would not be fun to getting scoped. Thanks for the suggestion of Simmons but I am big a fan of vortex and am wanting to find a good vortex scope to mount on top of my .300 wm. Once again thanks everyone.
