Ok so I'm looking at a new scope but can't decide between a vortex viper pst or a leupold with cds any thoughts would be great!

Well I was thinking VX3 cuz for the price if I went with the mark4 I may as we'll spend a few dollars more and go nightforce!

You get a lot more for your dollar with Vortex and a far superior warranty.

VIP Warranty is 100% NO FAULT lifetime. Fully transferable. No registration or receipt needed. Just have it in your possession. No questions asked. Doesn't matter how it got damaged or why, just send it in and they'll take care of it free and clear.

I have been a die hard leupold fan my entire life. Recently I have become a fan of vortex which has cause me to buy and try more of their stuff. First of all Vortex hands down had the best warranty out there. I have a razor spotting scope which I love. I also have had 2 rifle scopes. a PST and a Diamondback. they have cool reticles and the PST has cool features... but the eye relief is a major issue for me. the eye relief on Vortex Rifle scopes is extraordinarily short. For that reason I only own my Razor spotting scope still and I have no plans to get rid of it.. Also Vortex is a heck of a company. really good people with a personal touch. Customer service is second to none....That being said I say VX3 for a rifle scope

I agree, I was a die hard Leupold fan for many years. Then I bought my first PST. Now I own six of them. Go with the Vortex all day, you will not be disappointed.

We've replaced all our Leupold optics with Vortex, a co worker replaced a couple MK 4's with Vortex and is much happier!

Right on for the info I guess now I'm just wondering if the eye relief will be enough with the vortex cuz it will be going on a weatherby 30-378.

I used to only buy Leupold. I decided to try a Conquest that I was able to get for around the same price as a VX-3. I was amazed at how much better the glass compared to my VX-3.
After that incident, I decided to look at other optics. My next purchase will be a Vortex.

Not sure what member Tikkamike is talking about with eye relief. I have never had that issue with any Vortex. Maybe his eyes are different or something is set up wrong?

Anyone else have issues with Vortex eye relief? Cuz hearing that is a first for me...

The Vortex eye box is definitely touchier IMO, I don't feel like I'm short on eye relief but I tend to shoot at lower powers so maybe say a 6-24 at the top end it may be shorter than I'm using now.

I suppose the Vortex eye box is a little more fussy, but I think there's plenty of distance for relief to accommodate any large Magnum rifle.

If a person's head is moving 3.5"-4" to get smacked by the rear ocular, then they are not holding the rifle correctly for heavy recoil.

I will admit that my favorite eye box for a mid priced scope is probably the Nikon Monarch. Great low light glass too.

Got a new Zeiss HD5 5-25x50, but haven't shot with it or checked it in low light yet. I'm sure it will be outstanding.
