With the choices you have, the 7 STW would be my choice.

Any of the 338s would be a step up.

What do you intend to do with the rifle? Just punch paper, hunt if so what game?

steel out to 1000 yards and hunting for deer , maybe an elk .

7WSM I am interested in , would it be a problem using a long action ?

I will also cast a vote for the 338 Edge. That is the 300 Ultra mag necked up to 338 if you don't know what it is.

If your 300 rum is a great shooter, it will do anything the 7stw can, especially with bullets like the Nosler Long Range Accubond in 190 gr w a bc of 640 and 3300fps.

With an action like that the sky is the limit, have you seen what a large 338 OR 375 is capable of? They are made for the 1000+ yard game.

I am a big Nosler fan, but don't believe everything you read about the BC of the new Accubond Long Range. Their BC's are inflated. One of our prestigious memebers here was kind enough to do a test between the Bergers and the new ABLR. The Bergers rang true, while the ABLR came up short on advertised BC.

A 7mm STW can shoot to 1 mile (1,760 yards). And can easily take game over 1000 yards with 180gr bullets.

8x68s
338 Norma
338 Edge

In that order - looking at replacing my 7mm rem mag with a new 8x68 (either barrel or whole rifle) since I am missing it so

I own and shoot a 7STW, I also own a 300 Rum. If I had one and a new custom action, I wouldn't make the other. I would add something different to my arsenal, which I why I suggested a big 338 or 375.

Not a detractor of the 7STW- you'll see my posts on the brotherhood thread...just offering a versatile choice to round out his selections.
