My friend said he shot a prairie dog at 300 yards with a 223. I said how would you even see it with some of the brush. What do you think.

re: My friend is full of

I don't have p-dogs but routinely make that shot in much less than minute of prairie dog with a 223.

re: My friend is full of

Thats not that hard of a shot in decent conditions, with a 223 in great conditions 800 yard shots arent out of the question if the shooter and gun are up to the task.

re: My friend is full of

He said the wind was blowing 50 Mph and it was off hand he said he held right on target in 50 Mph wind.

re: My friend is full of

Now if you included that in your first post... Ya, he's BSing ya.

Also(ref the wind) anyone can get lucky once in a while. Did he mention how many misses he had before he connected? Or his hit ratio? That distance is very doable.

Oh man what a shot. The way we hunt prairie dogs is we get a bunch of tractors and seeds and make a BIG food plot. We then set up our game cams and hope for the best. I have been going after a big prairie dog I call Theodore but I still haven't gotten a shot. Gonna set up the treestands this weekend and try to grunt/ rattle him into gun range.

He must have one of those rifle and bullets with guidance system.

Not sure about your friend, but just last week on an afternoon break from hunting deer and antelope in Wyoming, a few of us shot a few dozen PD's shot at that range and further. If it was really a 50 MPH I'd say it would be very tough, but even in a stiff wind it's not that hard to walk the bullet in with an AR and decent optics. Longest kill during our session with a 6.5x284 was 787 yards with a 7 MPH crosswind.
