Coyote that I killed on my cousin's farm in Pennsylvania. It was a female and weighed around 70lbs! She came out into the prairie as my cousin and I were groundhog hunting and I ranged her at 288yds and she dropped in her tracks. Shot her with my Remington 700 ADL Varmint chambered in .243 Winchester with a handload driving an 87gr V-MAX at 3250 fps. Hit her a little high in the shoulder quartering towards me because I sat my scope to the 300yd zero and my cheap rangefinder doesn't correct for angles so didn't adjust for shooting downhill at her. None the less she dropped and that V-MAX left a four inch exit hole in the middle of its spine and obliterated multiple vertebrates. Forget to take pictures of the wound but it was pretty violent, believe me!

Good work, 70#s is a monster! Not too many fur friendly 243 loads. But who cares? This time of year they're all rubbed out and worthless anyway. Just think of all the fawns you just saved
Ya I'm not much into the pelt trade, but if I was, I guess I could load up some 90gr Sierra FMJs and give them a try or just slow down my V-MAXs some but that isn't any fun haha. The coyote was a female and she was pregnant so definitely saved a lot of fawns for sure, and if she got any bigger she may go after bigger deer or even baby calfs. We have been hearing a lot of them out there and even spotted a huge black one at 400yds while rabbit hunting this winter and once on trail camera. We are going to start hitting them hard and really going after that black one since he has been hanging around prime deer territory and has to weigh around 90lbs!

You've saved some groundhog (targets for me), too. Just got a .243 for 'yotes myself; not interested in saving fur, just want 'em dead ASAP.

Yeah I hope so! Trying to keep the deer population up and don't want to loose any big bucks when they are still fawns. Also want to save the rabbits because they are a blast to hunt!
Don't want them coyotes stealing my groundhog kills either haha! The .243 is an excellent all around shell from varmints, predators, and deer for sure! Depending on how far you plan to shoot your 'yotes and groundhogs, you can load many wicked bullets in the .243 from the fast 75gr V-MAX, to my favorite 87gr V-MAX, and even the high BC 105gr A-MAX, if your twist is fast enough, for those really long shots. Hope you plaster some coyotes and good luck to you man.
