Im in the market for a new rimfire. Ive got a Savage BTVSS 22LR but i want something with more juice. Ive been wanting a 17hmr but then the 17 super mag comes out. I really dont like the b mag. So should i wait for something better to come out in the super mag or just go with the already quite popular 17 HMR? Will the super mag take away the popularity of the HMR?

There are several good quality 17HMR rifles out there, not true with the 17WSM, the WSM won't be taking over with the rifles that people want to buy.

With only Winchester making the ammo and an expensive rifle and only Savage making their new low cost ( quality) B Mag bolt action rifle chambered for the 17 WSM round it is likely that the 17 WSM round will turn out like the Rem 5 MM rim fire round-- dead.. I like shooting the little 17 caliber rifles and have 17 HM2, 17 HMR, 17 Hornet, 17 Fireball, and 17 Rem and would get a 17 WSM chambered rifle, that is if an other company would make a rifle with much better quality and accuracy than the Savage B Mag model. But I think that's unlikely.

I had the chance to shoot one the other day (17 super mag). My neighbour brought his over to my place ans asked me to see if I could get it to shoot. He had a couple of different weights of bullets. I shot a few and wow was it bad.
I cleaned it just in case, no better. I tries a few times. The best it would shoot was a 3 inch group. And has abolutley no consistancy.
His comment was "at least the gun was cheap so it don't really matter".

Now he said he was going to buy a 17 HMR like his sons, at least he knows that they shoot better.
