A few weeks ago I got the opportunity to go shooting with Latt Durrance. We shot at 600y then 800y. I had never shot past sighting in at 200y before. Since I hit that target at 800y I am hooked. I want to start shooting long distances. I have only hunted archery since I was a kid so I know nothing about rifles. I got a model 70 300 win mag in a trade a year or so ago and put a few boxes through it but never been too interested in shooting it until now. I put a Monarch 3 4-16 BDC scope on it. I know it will never be a long range shooter but I am disabled so I am on a limited budget so I want to get the best accuracy and get as far as I can with what I have. So my question is; what bullet, powder etc,. should I load? Any info and help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Do you happen to know your rifle's barrel twist? I would imagine it would be a 1:10 being a .300 WinMag.

You have a good platform to start with. The .300 WinMag is very capable of being a LR shooter, and a very good caliber for it.

I load for my buddy's .300 WinMag, and we have had very good luck with Berger 215 & 230 Hybrids. I am a big fan of IMR 7828 SSC powder. It has lots of uses, and is very universal for overbore cartridges, and magnum calibers. H1000 and Berger 230 Hyrbids are what we had the best luck with for my buddy's .300 WinMag. Can't remember how many grains of powder, though...

I would start with common loads from a good reloading manual find a good one and u will have a long range shooter if u can't get it to shoot have the throat checked if someone trades off a model 70 it probably for a reason

OK I have tried lots of powders and found myself starting over a few times from mistakes I made a few times reloading and so far the best I have found at 100y was 180g Accubonds with 81g of H1000. With three shot groups all three holes were touching and covered by a dime. This is good for now but I think I am going to see if I can get the Accubond LR 210g to shoot when I am ready to go past 500 yards
