Norma powder for 270win. 204 or MRP

After finding a great load for my 270win with Rl22, I can't find the stuff anywhere. I can however find Norma powders. What have you guys had luck with? I'm thinking of either 204 or MRP.

I've heard Rl22 is relabeled MRP but you hear a lot of things online...

Norma MRP is really close to the burn rate of R22. I would drop two grains and work back up. I would think that you will see the same velocities within a grain of R22.

I vote for the MRP also, close or same as RL22, and has been available for the last year, a big plus today.

When supplies increase, switch back, but I bet you wont. Norma powders are some of the cleanest burners I've seen, offset by price of coarse.

Brainstorm: I'm about to build a 6.5-06, was going to buy MRP, but have acquired 30+ lbs of RL 25 in the last 2 months, going to lean hard on the 25 to start with. Though not listed anywhere, 25 is a higher energy powder and may fill the bill for you, pick up a pound and try, it's been rather easy to come by lately. A thought.

Reloader 22 is not Norma MRP

But very close

RL 22 Very good in the 300 Win and 270 Win

Very close to H4831 also

RL 25 very good in 7mm WSM and the ultra Mags

Bofors makes both MRP and RL22 and also made Winchester WXR. It is most likely the same powder with possible quality differences. It is probably Bofors RP 5. They should all interchange within lot variations .

Rl-22 is very temp sensitive.

MRP replaced N-205. I understand MRP has been replaced by N-217. . . .??

Allianz 4000MR seems fairly available in my area. Don't know about your area...

4000 puts the above mentioned hands down!!!

IMR 7828 ranks up there pretty good also

MRP2 was discontinued. They came out with 217, but not to replace MRP2.
Slower than MRP, but faster than MRP2.

Roy, I'm glad you mentioned 4000mr because it is available. Do you have any load info that you've came across? I wasn't able to find a lot. If it works out for me, it'll save me about ten bucks a pound.

My records show 54.9 gr. PP 4000 MR for MV of 3190 FPS out of a 27" Lilja bbl.

Bullet is Berger 140 VLD - Hunting (277140V) seated Base to 0.277 ogive using a Sinclair nut.

Ran her up 3300 w/o problems but what's the sense in that? She's just 270 Winnie.

Besides she shoots too good to waste bbl life.

Weatherby factory ammo uses MRP up to the .300 Wby. When you step up to the .378 Wby based calibers, I'm pretty sure they use MRP2. Norma loads Weatherby factoey ammo, and also makes the factory Weatherby brass.

So, I would say you should have no problems with MRP in a 7mm RemMag...Especially since the burn rate is right next to 22, so close I would say load data might even be interchangeable.

I use 61.0 gr of MRP with 130 gr. Nosler Ballistic tip bullets in Winchester brass with Rem 9 1/2 primers in my Winchester 70 XTR Featherweight in .270Win. I get MOA 100 yard 3 shot groups Velocity is 3070 fps out of the 22" barrel. Case life is good as is primer appearance. No sticky extraction. Don't know if MRP is still available but I bought a case of it cheap about 15 years ago from a dealer that couldn't sell it. My brother has had good results in his .300 Weatherby.

It is true, RL22 is leftovers that did not meet the standards to be labeled as MRP, 205 was so close to MRP that there wasn't any sense in keeping both. MRP2 is also a "high quality" RL25, 217 is not a replacement for MRP2, test have shown 217 to be slower than Retumbo, right on par with VV N170 but not quite as slow as N570. Norma 204 is RL19 without the "bad" characteristics of 19, it's a good powder for 130s in a 270 win, but for 140s and up MRP is a better choice. PP4000MR is basically a reformulation of the ball powder we know as Ramshot Hunter just in a smashed extruded form. Personally I'd look for some H4831sc, but that's just me. Good luck.
