What spotting scope?

Leupold 12-40HD and a carbon Vanguard tripod. I really like the 30mm of constant eye relief. About $1000 is all for a great system.

Leupold 15-30x50 Compact Golden Ring Spotter

I have this same spotting scope. good for backpacking purposes, but in the end I never want to carry the extra weight and feel comfortable with just using my 8x42 Leica binocs. Will upgrade to a 10x50 binoc at some point in the future when I can afford it.

not to hijack but is there anything out there around 300$ thats worth carrying? thanks

I paid $300 for my Gold Ring 15-30x50mm, but that was over 10 years ago... just looked and they're up to $400 now. First reason I don't carry it is I just don't want to carry any extra weight. second reason is the optics are not all that great compared to a high end unit. I would think the new models have better clarity but not sure. If I were to go on a trophy hunt where I really needed the performance of a spotting scope, I think I would carry the extra weight and go with a high-end swarovski (or similar). On a regular hunt where I don't care about finding a trophy a long ways off I just don't see the necessity for any spotting scope. I think a good set of good binocs are enough.

Use to pack leo 12-40x60 ans straight 20 sometimes still. But I hunt with 10x bino and my Mark 4 rifle scope on 20 is all I need to confirm if it something I want to go after.

maybe a bit on the heavy side, but...... swaro 20-60x80 HD straight, gitzo carbon tripod, i think its worth the weight because of all that you can see

Same here. I switched over to a set of 12x binos, a carbon fiber tripod for longer glassing sessions and I use my 24x rifle scope for my spotter. Works out good for me.

when I choose to carry a spotter its a vortex that is in my pack. this is generally when I'm guiding and not carrying a rifle.

I love the 12x50 binoculars.

I know its heavy but WOW, all the things you can see! Kowa 662 with 20-60 eye piece. I use an old bushnell tripod that I picked up years ago.
