I can't find any reloading info on the 171 grain .284 match burner bullet from Barnes. It's got a really impressive b.c. (.645), but it's not in the Barnes reloading manual. Anyone have any info on these? Thanks
Dan

I have been wondering the same thing. For 32$/box you get great BC and still light enough for non magnum cartridges. If I find any locally I will let you know how they perform in a 284 win.

Excellent bullet,
I have used them with great results out of my .284 win in F-Class competition.
Just use the same start data as for the 168gn Berger or 175gn Sierra SMK and work up.

Good pill, I bought 4 boxes of them when they first came out. I was tossing them with rl25 and rl50 in my stw but with its 10" twist they were .25 moa one day and they wouldn't quite stabilize the next day and grouped loosely.
I started using them in my 7rem and the 9" twist spun them just fine; 66 retumbo with a mag cap was getting them to 1/2 moa without trying at all. The comment on using 168 and 175 data is correct. I did put one through a coyote at 300 yards last year; they look as though they will be a good light game bullet. I've got some loaded for my 7rum at present but haven't sent any down range yet.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but Topshot, can you share your load data? I am planning on trying them in my 284 win this summer, and am particularly interested as too what distance off/into the lands you found they shot the best. Thanks.

I run a .312" neck. Cases are turned to a loaded diameter of .309"
Throat is very long with the bullets just seated into the neck above the donut.
The 171 Barnes is loaded to a COAL of 3.156" 0.010" into the lands. I use a CCI LR 200 primer.
Load is 56.5gn of AR2213SC (H4831sc) with a velocity of over 3000fps.
I get excellent benchrest level accuracy with this load.

This is a special load for a custom cut chamber, do not use it for standard factory cut chambers. Work up your load.

Thanks for the info, i also have a custom throat (for the 162 amax which shoots .25 MOA) but plan on using H4350, i havent checked how far they will be in the neck with my throat yet. Im hoping this bullet will give me the same type of accuracy as the amaxs so i can try my hand at f-class this summer. Again, thanks for your info.

Did you shoot these in Fclass. What did you find? I've got a 284 win with a 315 neck that I'm shooting with this season. Did you find any excessive copper fouling? That has been a concern else where with Barnes Bullets. What kind of accuracy did you see over a 20 round string. Thanks.

They shoot real well. We only shoot 10 shot strings plus 2 sighters at each distance.
Didn't notice any extra copper fouling with these bullets.
The rifle is wearing a new barrel now and I have run out of the Barnes 171gn pills.
So switched back to the 180gn Bergers in the new barrel.

When Dan originally posted his question he did not specify which 7mm he was shooting

My 7mm 08 , Shilen 1 in 9 " RH twist , 24 inch long barrel

Seating depth .030 " from the lands and it loves H4350 powder ( 45.5 grs ) CCI 200 primers...my review is also on Midway's Barnes match grade bullet review

This is the Oct 2015 1027 yards shoot
