270 Sherman

With max loads and a 30" tube I think these speeds are doable:

165g Matrix 3100fps,
150 Berger 3200fps,
130 Berger 3300fps.

It is probably the most performance you can get from a 270 case. The finished cases run around 10% more powder capacity than the same fired case before fire forming.

I agree, those numbers are similar to that off my .270 AI! I've exceeded 3100 FPS with 175 Matrix but with too much pressure and accuracy started to open up; I've settled for 2993 FPS with 175 Matrix as my accuracy load at least for now.

Wow that's impressive! This is the reason I wish Hornady would introduce a .277cal A-MAX in a heavy weight such as a 162gr to push them in the .270 AI, .270 Sherman, .270 WSM, and .270 WBY. Would love to have a .270 AI or .270 Sherman one day.

This is some good info for you Trever. The Sherman should add 50' to an A.I. everything else equal. Bottom line, 3100' with a 165 might be a moderate load.......Rich

It's nice to get magnum performance out a non-magnum chambering. I'm currently performing around my friend's factory Weatherby Accumark in 7MM Mag using HSM 180 Berger VLD (2845 FPS) with my 175 Matrix VLD at 2993 FPS. :D

That's very impressive! What kind of energy does your 175gr load have at 800 yards? Seems like it could be a good elk and deer rifle for even the farther ranges.

Feenix......you could always run the Sherman reamer into your chamber and pick up some more velocity while using your same brass, if you so choose........Rich
Ain't it fun!:D

Rich,

Fun indeed! I'll keep that in mind. I might do your 6.5 Sherman first though. :D

I'll ping you for info when I'm ready. Cheers!

Sounds good! The 6.5 is a bigger increase over the A.I. than a 270 because the 6.5 A.I. is based on the '06 case and the Sherman isn't.......Rich
