I went to this old gun shop tonight to pick up some federal 215 Match primers tonight. It was the only place that I could find the primers. I was talking to the shop owner about my 264 and how I shoot Retumbo out of it. But told him I always wanted to try 870 and that it sucks that you can't buy it anymore. He says well I bought a 55lbs of it years ago asked me if I wanted some . He said 100 bucks for 8lbs I told him I only brought 80 bucks with me. He said no big deal give me 80 for the 1000 primers and 8lbs of powder and send me a check when you get time. I thought that was cool being I have never met the guy before. I am putting a check in the mail tomorrow morning for the old timer. I was also thinking about going back and buying another 8lbs of it for that price. So does anybody have any good info on 870 and the 264 win with 140 bergers ? I am running 70grns of Retumbo and Berger 140's at 3279 right now with really good results. But if I can get close to the same results with 870 I will buy some more of it esp when Retumbo is going between 26-30 bucks a lb by me. The guy told me he used to shoot 75grns with a 140 partion out of his old model 70.

Good deal man! That's a steal for that powder! For your .264 try around 73.0grs of H870 with those 140s, I believe this load is max or right around there. Velocity should be around 3200fps or faster out of a 26inch barrel.

check out wc867 at wideners... less $$ than the h870 but mil surp... 870 was too but blended and data was made for it. I've been working on a couple of kegs of wc872 and some 8700 for years now.

74grns of H870 in mines with 140 grn Bergers AND Amaxs get it done!!!!!!!!!

I tried to get "H-870" to work in the .264 Win Mag. The problems are two fold. First it is too slow. Second it is dirty.

I never cracked 3000 fps in a 26 inch barrel with 120 ballistic tips to 160 round nose bullets. I used F215 and WLRM primers. I even tried 1.0 and 1.5 gr of Red Dot over the primer (duplex load) and still couldn't get the stuff rolling. With a duplex load and 160 gr bullets you can get right up to 2990 instrumentally.

The Hodgdon data for this surplus powder seems complete fantasy to me.

I am using the WSM case now with Retumbo or VV N-570. I have tried H-869, HBMG 50 and Norma 215 and they are too slow to get much velocity.

Reloader 33 might be of promise. So far I can get the best velocity with VV N-570 with 160 gr Woodleigh and 140 gr Berger VLD bullets.

65WSM I already have a great load for my 264 I shoot 70 grns of Retumbo with 140 Bergers. The load gives me 3279 fps and groups in the .3s at 100. I also have shot some really good groups at longer ranges with it. I am just asking if anyone has a good load with 870. I have always heard that 870 was the powder to have for the 264. I was just thinking if I could get close to the same performance with 870 I would buy up more of it as it would be a cheaper option than retumbo for me.

I agree H870 seems to slow but the data suggest its fast. My Uncle swears by the .264 WIN Mag and he shoots H4831in it I'm pretty sure. Only thing he uses H870 in is in his 7-.300 WBY and the ol' .30-378 Magnum. I also think RL-33 is too slow.

I have never found powders in the H870 range to be too slow for the 264. I have used 8700, BMG50, US869 and WC872 and have gone over 3000 with 140's with all in a 24" barrel. Work up some loads and tell us how it works for you..
