Just got my RL 33 powder. thought id see if anyone had anything good or bad to say about it beforr i start loading for my 7MM RUM. Been loading with Retumbo. Thoughts or comments welcome

Please post your results! I haven't saw a lot of info of RL33 w/7rum. Should be a good match I would think; especially w/ 160+gr bullets and 28 in+ barrel.

I have used RL-33 in several cartridges. I think it works best with the heaviest bullet for caliber. While it might work with a 160 or 168 it will work better with a 180 gr bullet.

I haven't used RL-33 in the 7 RUM as I don't have one right now. I will be following this thread so be sure and report back on your results.

When the 195 Bergers come out I may have to make another 7 RUM you can bet I'll be trying RL-33!

Will b shooting my RUM monday with some RL 33. But after researchn this topic, it looks like the RL 33 needs to have bullet seated close to lands. Which i cannot do with my factory sendero. I will however be able to do alot better with data on this powder as soon as my 7AM gets here. I will b shooting 189 cautercio bullets in it. Wondering right now about whether or not to take my sendero to gunsmith and have magazine lengthened and barrel possibly cut down so i can reach lands. Anyone have anything new to add about temp sensitivity on this RL33?

I haven't got to play much with it , dang work getting in the way . one thing I can say is , it is dirty . it puts me in mind of 777 in my inline muzzy . I'm just not sure how much to shoot between cleanings .

I remember Kirby Allen mentioning that he got better ES and accuracy with bullet into rifling. Doesn't
mean it won't work with bullet jump.

The three that shot with bullet jump was a 257 Weatherby & 110 accubond, 6mm-284 and 105 berger hybrid and 300 RUM & 230 hybrid. The 7mm/375 was erratic in velocity and group size with 180 hybrid. I'd say try it and see if it works for you.

Initial results show good (high velocity) and bad (high ES) using RL-33 in this 7 RUM. The gun will most likely be used for hunting with a max range of 600 where ES is not as much of a concern. H50BMG may be a better alternative to RL-33 with regard to reducing muzzle velocity variation while maintaining maximum heavy bullet velocities.

The 7rum is overbore enough that rl50 will work also. I've gotten good results with the 7stw and heavies with rl50, but with a 10" twist pipe the accuracy switches on and off with the heavies and I stay to 140-150 grn weight. I've got my eye on a couple of # of rl50 at my lgs ( for my 7rum and 171's) and after payday I may just buy what they have. I already know it works with 225's in my 300rum so I've got another use if it flops in my 7rum.

I may have to play with rl33 in my 7rum too, as I'm not sure I'm getting all I can at reasonable pressure with retumbo.

Just bought some RL 33 for my STW/160 AB...1/10....any recommendations? RL 25 so far is giving excellent results...not sure of the velocity yet, haven't chrono'd it. 77.5 gr RL 25 giving one hole group. Moving up to 168 Sierra next maybe, to see if they will do as well, imagine it will start to open up due to twist ...want to start attempting some LR Shooting...

I tried RL-33 in a 7mm/375 with 162 A-max. This is the full length 375 necked down not the shorter 7m LRM. Worked up to 86 gr for decent accuracy with no tweaking. 87 gr had some bolt lift resistance.

This cartridge is a bit smaller than the 7 STW. Alliant's loading page says max load of 88.4 gr which seems about right when compared to my results. Never understood why list .4 grains instead of .5?

Thanks AZ,

I will try that....agreed on .4 vs .5, with the capacity of these cases one would think +- a grain would be sufficient. However I was amazed to see how my STW changed from 77 to 77.5 to 78.....definitely likes that .5 gr increment.
