Hello all. I'm wanting to build something a bit different in a long range pistol. An ar pistol. I already have the stripped lower and upper. Wondering about buffer tube length and barrel length. I also am not against going with a caliber other than a fast twist 5.56. Any and all brainstorming is welcome.
thanks guys

How about a 300 Blackout/Whisper? Seems like a match for a short barrel AR. My son has a 16" AR rifle in 300 Whisper/Blackout (S&W M&P15). Nice gun.

Do a fast twist and you can shoot heavies subsonic, as well as supersonic light weights.

Regards,
Rog

How far and what for?
Critters, steel, all of the above?
Hopefully your lower did not start off as a rifle.
I have had two:
A Rock River handgun, and then currently a Seekins (non-designated) lower which has never had a butt-stock on it.
I have two uppers for the Seekins, a 7" and a 15"
Both are Rock barrels, 7T, and they both have brakes.

Never had a butt stock. Bought as stripped lower. I'm basically wanting an accurate plinking gun. It will mostly be used for varmints and maybe a whitetail thrown in the mix. How far I'm not real sure. Ive been around and built some pretty accurate ARs but never a pistol. So its going to be a learning experience.

You will do well then.
Accuracy is accuracy.
My buffer tube is standard length.
Muzzle velocity as you know is dependent upon barrel length.
If the two uppers had not been set-up ahead of time I would have chosen an 8T.

Well I'm hoping that I do well. Haha. Thanks for the support. If I may ask why would you go with an 8twist rather than 7? I kinda always preferred a 7twist but I'm biased because they gave me my best accuracy.
How well would a 6.5 grendel do in a 15-16" barrel? Ive also been curious about some of the 6.8 Wildcats like the 6-6.8. Has anyone heard of them?
