My buddy is leaving for his Cow elk hunt neck Sunday. Nothing like planing pay ahead. He has 180gr TSX, and I will be using BL-C2 for powder, and will be used in a bolt action. Two questions which primer would be best for this set up standard LG rifle or LG mag primers. Two is .010 of the lands a good place to start for the TSX's, assuming in mag will allow.

O ya, it's for a 308 Win.

Thanks

What cartridge?

Just use a standard rifle primer, you're not burning enough powder to need a magnum primer and not shooting a semi so a standard will work fine.

Thanks. Is a jump of .01 going to work for the TSX

I personally don't jump bullets above average or seat them in the lands for that matter. My Dad did tests with his .308 Win. Remington Varmint Special and found that varying seating depths didn't have much of an effect on accuracy or velocity. His rifle consistently shot 3/8inch groups at 100yds. Now Remingtons have a little bit of freebore so this maybe the reason he couldn't tell much of a difference. He shoots everything right around .04 off the lands, nothing more, nothing less same goes for me.

a good place to start is .050 jump with the Barnes TSX bullets . they like a jump . here are instructions that were packed with the TSX's when I was using them . Jim

I have found using barnes bullets that they like a lot of jump and generally the harder you push them the better they group. I would start at .050" jump if your mag allows or just seat them to fit the mag. I would start at 41.0 grains of BL(C)-2 and work up. You should be able to push these bullets 2575-2625 out of a 24" barrel.

Thank you guys for the help. Got them loaded up lastnight, and went with .05. Going to shoot them today and hope they work. My buddy is freaking out because he doesn't think we can get this done before he leaves.

I hope he throws me down some meat when he gets back. After all 200 pounds of cut and wrapped meat goes a long way.
