I ordered a carbon wrapped barrel from Proof Research, who i understand bought ABS awhle back, (in July) and have not yet received. Anyone else having this issue?

It is sometimes dependent on your or their blank, if it is in stock or waiting on barrel. Form what I understand they are a sister co. for the wrap. Betting customs also does there own wraps as a ''sister'' co. Proof is currently under construction, and I DONT KNOW, if they are doing wraps at this time, manufacture building is a ways out yet. It is just a few miles from my home and 25,000 sq.ft facility, in the framing stage. They have a much smaller shop near there that they are working out of now.

Thanks, I read about the ownership change, and I imagine with building a new facility they have their hands full now.

jrsolocam,
Any update on your barrel? Its been a while. I heard PR were turning their own
"steel barrel blank" now. That might speed things up. Was thinking about getting one after the first of the year... But Man thats a wait.

I spoke with Jeff Badelt yesterday and he claims that under the current establishment, turn-around time is 12-14 weeks. My gunsmith will be putting in an order this week so I'll let everyone know how long it took once it arrives.

I know my brother in law got a barrel for his 6.5-284 from them. He took a deer this last fall at 1098 yards. I know that there facility is one heck of a building. Haven't been back home since it was finished, but I will be going by when I get back home.

Proof Research bought Mike DeGerness' ABS patent not the company. Mike was hired to set up and run the all new equipment in Montana. Proof had been at the mercy of the bbl manufactures just like the rest of us so they bought their own bbl company ( Lawrence bbls I think ) and they have been good to work with and pretty consistent in getting bbls to us in 3 mo. or less. --- 7mmRHB

I sent them a 20 cal barrel , it was ready to be wrapped. I had Bartlein turn the barrel to the old taper specs for ABS. Will try to get Pics up for it. When i first made contact it was with Linsey Bengston. She was very nice person to talk with. If she could not answer any question, she had someone get me it. The barrel came to me this week. So they said 2 weeks, it was there and back in 2 weeks.

Can not wait to get this one done. There web site does need some work, but Linsey said they are working on it . They have a barrel maker from Montana in house. His barrel are holding there own at Matches already. They say at this time 12 weeks or so on all barrels. If they get more orders it will be longer.

So I found they can do a 1-7 on a 7mm for me this for my 7mm/338 Norma mag improved. Want to use this with a 192 gr Cutting Edge bullet. Needs a fast twist to get to work. They also will place the carbon end at a spot for your muzzle brake or there's. But you may still need a gunsmith to thread it.

I believe I will also get the stock on a Defiance action done. If you want there stock send them you gun they match to there stock. Because the stock dries around the action and lug. so it is not a drop in fit.

Hope this helps

God Bless

Jeff

Was at the SCI show in Dallas last weekend. This is one company I would stay away from. The borescope does not lie and it sure made the marketing toads there turn green when I brought one up the next day. The tubes are not lapped had tooling marks in them. Asked to look at another the Marketing Director told me no. Not very many people have a borescope and I only had mine there to let someone else use it and thought since I placed an order the previous day for a barrel and action (cancelled now even put half down on a CC) on my way out stopped by. More than happy to have me look at the "SPOC hand lapped barrel" until the BS showed otherwise then the story changed. A lot more detail but steer clear of this outfit.

What's a SPOC barrel?
