Which states offers the most public land to hunt?

Looked at idaho, pretty inexpensive nr tags but not sure if there is any public land to hunt

thanks

Montana just recently lowered NR tags and offered more per hunter. There is plenty on public lands if you have horses or are up for a hike. Look at elk area 380.

Just realize it is a tough hunt unless you get lucky. Don't be mislead by the "smoke a pack a day" stickers. This is not like coyote hunting. Guys that go after wolves will tell you that sticker is not the way it really is.

But by all means come shoot one or some if you can.gun)

Murphy's law particularly applies to US wolf hunting.

Multiply the time in the hills hunting elk to be successful my a factor north of 3 and you'll maybe come close.

There's a pack around Driggs.

Island Park has the highest kill number. Lots of people there.

Selway and Frank Church are most probably the best but very tough to get to.

It's all in the timing. Wolves seem to cover a lot of ground and at night.

Broz and Roy are spot on. Finding tracks won't take ya but a few minutes out here, finding the mutt that left em is a different story. In the NW corner of MT- Talley Lake, Murr Cr, Thompson River, Fisher River, N.Fork of the Flathead, and the Swan Range all have several large packs. Getting them to come out of the timber is the real trick.

I have shot 3, encountered them numerous times, and hunt them pretty dang hard. They are the hardest to hunt animal I have ever gone after. You can get lucky, people do it frequently, but kid you not, you will earn every bit of it if fill your tag.

MT and ID would be the first places to look at hunting IMO.

i'll agree with speedo there, up here in alaska there are plenty of wolves. and almost all the land is open to the public, but there are only like 3-4 main roads through the state, so you'll want to bring some good boots with you.
