I am going to work up a load for my 300 WBY using 185 GR Berger
Classic hunting bullets. Does anyone have a report of how these bullets performed on game. What game, how far was the shot, results? Thanks Jeff

Welcome to LRH Jeff.

I would recommend the 215 or 230 Hybrids for the 300 Wby. I'm loading the 230 in my 300 RUM. With frangible bullets it's best to go with heavier for cal bullets with more mass and lower velocities especially with classic bullets in the J4 jackets. A few members have had good success with the 215 and 230 Hybrids and 230 OTM in the larger 30 cal magnums. My general rule of thumb is to avoid impact velocities over 3000 fps with the Bergers, especially the lighter ones. Retumbo and H1000 are popular powders for them.

Thanks. Do you know what the difference between the hybrid bullets and the classic hunter? Is it the jacket?

Thanks for all of your input.
I have decided to hunt with the 215 Hybrid bullets. (will order some if I can find them?) I noticed the hybrid bullets are longer than the classic hunter. Will run into problems with: bullet seating depth and or being to long to fit into magazine?

Excellent choice! These will work great out of your 300 Wby. MontanaRifleman is right, use the heaviest (or near heaviest) bullet for your caliber. At close range you'll still have your fragmenting bullet but with the extra mass of the 215 it will really help with your penetration. If you need your cartridges to fit in the mag, just load them so that you have .020" clearance in the magazine and see if they shoot. I have found that the hybrid line is not finicky about seating depth like the VLD's are. Chances are you won't be able to get close to your rifling with the typical Weatherby freebore anyway. Good luck locating some 215's!
