Ok so Ive got a new Knight Mountaineer .52 on order and I want a good low light scope for it...
Here are a few of my requirements
1. It needs a good easy to use ballistic plex... like Burris, or Vortex, absolutely no Nikon circle crap
2. I would like it to have a max magnification of 12-16x
3. Id like a 30mm tube and 50mm objective
4. $750ish or less

I had a knight long range hunter and it had a 4-12x50 Burris Euro Diamond with there ballistic plex and I loved it... the reticle worked out perfect with my BH209 load with a 100yd zero out to 300yds. I want a good quality scope with the best low light optics I can afford I just dont want a real "busy" reticle with a lot of extra nonsense hash marks all over just a regular crosshair with 3-4 aiming points below.
Ive been looking at the Vortex Viper HS but I dont know a lot about them and Im not sure I like the 1/2" elevation adj.

Soo does anyone have any good reccomendations on a good low light scope for shooting whitetail sized critters out to 300+yds witha good hash mark style ballistic plex???

Come on somebody has to have some good input for me in this... any input would be greatly appreciated, even if its bad experiences to sway me away from a certain option Im all ears guys

Find a used Burris Black Diamond. They have way better glass than the Vortex you are looking at and I like their reticles better. Their warranty isn't as good as Vortex but they cover any problems that weren't due to total negligence.

Ive tried to find new/old stock black diamond or euro diamond scopes but I cant seem to find any and no offense but I cant make myself buy used optics.
Im not sure about the glass Ive got a mid range Vortex spotter and its better than the best Burris makes but who knows the scopes might be a different beast... I know I really liked my old Burris Euro Diamond
As far as reticles go the Burris ballistic plex and the Vortex dead hold plex or whatever they call it are almost identical, as far as look and holdover spacing... theyre both within a fraction of and inch. at 1.5" to the second aiming point, 4.5" to the third, 7.5" to the fourth, and 11" to the last

You're missing out not buying used optics :) The Vortex spotters are much better than Burris, but I've thrown my Black Diamond up against a bunch of Vortex scopes up to the PST series and the Black Diamond is always better optically.

I actually think the Fullfield E1 series is what I would buy if you will only buy new. If you ever want to use the scope to dial yardage than I think the Vortex is a better option.

Ive actually got a Burris E1 on a .30-06 and its not a bad scope but one thing Ive noticed on the last three Burris scopes Ive bought is that the clicks when making adjustments feel kinda sloppy and not real positive firm clicks... IDK maybe its all in my head but it REALLY bugs me. I also dont like that the E1 reticle doesnt go from from top to bottom and side to side, it just floats in the center which makes it harder for me to tell if its level as most of my hunting is done prone in a field with a bipod or sitting against a tree with a shooting stick like turkey hunting. I guess I just like the full top to bottom and side to side crosshairs and just a few simple aiming points below the crosshairs... the less busy and more simple the better for me as far as hunting goes and thats what Im looking for, a real good hunting scope

Why do you care what the clicks feel like if you're going to use the reticle to hold over? I think you already know what you want in a scope, go buy it :)

I think you're missing the boat by not considering a Nikon BDC reticle scope. If you're going to use holdover's why not get a scope that help's you make accurate shot's? I have used the BDC reticle on multiple muzzle loader's and make accurate shot's that are way better then MOP, Minute of pie-plate. 250 yards and 3 shot's in a 4 inch circle fills my freezer. Of course I use Nikon's Spot On Program to help me make my shot's count.

Just saying, IMHO, weigh all the option's out there, unless like Browning said, you have already made up your mind ?

No I dont quite have my mind made up yet Ive been leaning towards the Vortex Viper HS but I was looking for other comparable options... Nikons arent bad scopes but I personally hate the circle BDC reticle, Ive shot some friends guns with them and I just do not like them... I want a definate aiming point not a circle to cover the area

J., I understand, that's what is so great about the scope market, lot's of choices! I'd say look down as many tubes as you can that fit your requirements and buy the one you think will work the best for your needs. By the way, Nikon does have a bunch of non-BDC reticle scope's too.....
