My brother is picking up a Rem 700 in 300 RUM tomorrow it has a light weight 26 inch barrel on it. He was telling me he was going to put a break on it at some point. Now here's my question. I seen an article that had a video attached a while back about putting a break with top ports on thin barrels and the damage that it could potentially cause to the stock and or bedding. Has anyone else seen this or have an opinion on this so I can pass the info on to him so he doesn't end up making a bad choice when he goes to have one installed.

Thanks everyone in advance

Never saw a brake with top ports on a standard factory contour sporter barrel do damage to the stock or the bedding.... But then again.... If you search the intrurdnet long enough, I suppose you can find some data to support that hypothesis.

Poll some of the custom rifle smith's that are sponsors on this site, and I think you'll find it's not an issue.
Better yet, poll some of the custom stock builders and you'll get a more precise answer, but "no" is still "no".

"Carry on"

I ended up finding the video I was looking for in the video review section on this sight. It was done by J E Custom. My recollection wasn't 100% right. He never said it would do damage but that it has potential. Thanks for the response.

Dang. I just pm'd Jerry and was going to post it in your thread. I have 2 assassin brakes. Jerry has done some very extensive research. He has documented his success. Go to YouTube and type in jecustom101.

Lay off the elixir and play nice! :D

I am.

Too early for exilir. Hot cocoa maybe. It's a balmy 2 here. Got the tractor started, today is round bale day. Will have to idle for an hour before the hydraulic oil is thin enough to flow......

With the prostituting of America by the current administration, lets, at least, use proper terminology and correct spelling....just say'in.

No calls from the traffic department yet...... I'm sure they will come as the day wears on.

2-4 more tomorrow.

Are you working or on vacation?

Here is a video he made testing many of the popular breaks out there. I was very surprised to see the results. I apologize if this is the one you have already found.

I cant see any damage done by a muzzle brake unless it was installed wrong, something jamming it up just plane old dirty.
I put a clamp on brake from Witt machine Witt Machine I put it on a Savage M.111 in 7mm rm. The only regret that I have about that is not putting 1 on soonergun)
