I've run hundreds of them through my 300 WM and 300 WSM. I use 75.2 grains of Retumbo to drive them at over 2800 in the Win and 7828ssc for the WSM achieving 2750fps.
There are several good threads about them on here. Do a google search for 230 OTM hunting and enjoy.

Seems everyone is suggests H1000 or Retumbo with the 230 OTM. I seen a military contractor was pushing to replace the 220 Sierra MK with the 230 OTM. The Contractor was pushing the 230 OTM at 2900 FPS in the 26" barrel that's cooking in the 300 Win Mag.
I have a New Rem 700 5r Tact to reload for in 300 Win and 26".

Sounds like he might be using a Shooting Chrony. From a 27" 300 win we are getting 2775 with H-1000. That was across an Oehler 35. Still a killing machine and does very well on large game in wind.

I think 2800 FPS or less in my 26" will be enough. Are you using Magnum primers or large rifle?
I have a few bull moose every year stay out of range at the 700/ 800 yard range......in 2014 I have a surprise for them!

Yes, I like magnums incase we get into very cold temps. We are using FED GM 215 M's and H-1000. My son has taken many elk with the 230 OTM from his 300 win. This year he took a large 6x6 elk at 815 yards.

I run the 230 OTM from my 30/338 win at 2740, I have loaded faster but best accuracy was found there. As others have posted it runs very well, seating depth was REALLY not picky, in my rifle, YMMV. IDK if a guy can get to much more than 2900 without toting a vaulting pole afield sent from a 300 win mag. YMMV. H-1000 seems to work really well for most, it didn't for me. I ended up running US867, again YMMV...
Just out of curiosity, the 230 hybrid target bullets have a higher bc than the otm tactical, (.743 vs. .713), so why not use them? I know neither one are really recommended for hunting, are the tactical better? Just asking, I really don't know.

Jeff helped me out on the 230 OTM's over a year ago. I'm getting 2710 fps out of my 300 win with 73 grains of H1000 and 215M primers it has a 26 inch barrel. My 300 Dakota is shooting them at 2860 fps with 77.5 grains of H1000 and 215M primers. They are a hammer. Bull I shot this year folded like I never would have thought. They work at close range and long. Have fun!

Dan, when we started working with the 230 Bergers the only one offered was the OTM. Then later they introduced the Target with a higher BC. We had such good luck with the OTM that we simply never changed. Then Berger introduced the 215 Hybrid and I went that route to test. The 215 Berger Hybrid gave new life to my 300 win and right now is sitting with 21 big game kills in 21 shots. My son "young-gun" is still shooting the 230 OTM in his 300 win. So the data I have is for the OTM and if I felt the need to look further I would surely test the 230 Targets, especially in chamberings with a larger case capacity than a 300 win.
Who says neither is recommended for hunting? With many elk deer and antelope dead in one shot I will recommend them.
But yes, you are correct, Berger does not recommend them yet.Jeff
On Oct. 15 I used a 230 grain Berger OTM Tactical Hybrid to take a 6x5 bull. .300 Win Mag, range 350 yards, muzzle velocity 2775, impact velocity 2400 fps +or-. Bullet hit directly on the near side shoulder bone just above the "knee" and under the wide "blade", made a mess of the lungs near the heart, and I found this in the hide on the far side with no further bone hit. Retained weight 81 grains. The bull went down when hit, no tracking needed, the near shoulder was completely unhinged. You can see that in the pic.
The Berger seemed to do it's job to the vitals well even after the initial contact with the heavy part of the shoulder bone.

I'm jealous...Been wanting to get the "big brother" (.300 WM) to my 5R MilSpec .308 Win. so I'd have a matching set. I reload for my buddy's .300 WM and we've loaded up with the 230 OTM's before, with H1000 and had great success shooting sub-MOA groups, even though his rifle is an SPS with the 26" sporter barrel.
